is there a limit to the number of lands in a deck? and also in the number of cards a player has in his or her hand?

No limit to the number of lands in a deck, although you definately don’t want to have too many or too few. 20-24 is a good number, depending on how many fetch lands or colors you use.

And yeah, there’s a 7 card hand limit. How that works is, at the end of each of your turns, if you have more than 7 cards in hand, you discard until you have exactly 7.

There`s no limit to the total number of lands, nor the number of each basic land (including snow-covered versions of them), but you can only have 4 copies of any non-basic land, just like regular cards. There’s a Legacy deck that packs 43 Lands, it’s named after it.
