With Deathrender, you do not play a creature from hand but put one into play (and attach Deathrender). The difference being that Evoke is an alternative cost to play a creature, and the creature in this case is not played.
Hope that helps,

When Deathrender triggers, you can select a creature from hand and put it into play. It’s still coming into play, so any CIP effect will trigger normally, but you’re not playing it, so any effect that requires playing a creature (Lys Alana Huntmaster, storm counts, etc) won’t be satisfied by this effect. You can put a creature with evoke into play, such as Mulldrifter, and draw the 2 cards, but it won’t die since it’s evoke cost was not paid. Also, notice that even if the evoke creature had flash, it would still be impossible to pay for it’s evoke cost WITH the ability from Deathrender, since while resolving a spell or ability no player gains priority. |
