I’m going to hop into the middle of this one and redirect some of the argument.

Here’s a quote from Joe Alread, former designer for LotR, during playtesting for the Ring-bound Rangers of The Two Towers:

"Our in-house playtesters continue to tell me we can’t make cards that affect a minions site number outside the skirmish phase. As I continue to learn more about design though, a big lesson I’ve learned is that you can pretty much do anything as long as you cost it correctly."

I follow that mentality. Saying "Gondor can’t have condition removal EVER, under ANY circumstances, for ANY reason" is uselessly limiting and restrictive of the environment. To deny yourself an avenue of creation - in anything - is self-destructive.

As long as the cost adequately matches the effect (taking into account any cultural weaknesses/strengths), you can make pretty much any card.

I agree with menace...well, mostly. Smile I still think bringing in such new concepts as condition removal for Gondor and burden removal for Rohan should be very, VERY limited, but I also think it’s okay for them to dabble in it a little. Such a powerful and specific card as the one AC designed hardly makes Rohan a culture that is strong against corruption. I’d still much rather toss in Frodo and/or Merry, Swordthain with some copies of Nine-fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom, or some other burden removal mechanic from a culture that IS good at it.

But again, a little dabbling is alright by me as long as it’s costed appropriately, limited, and doesn’t outright break anything else. I think AC’s card is a good example of making it work.

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!

And so, Madril, Defender of Osgiliath was born and subsequently banned.

At least the playtesters agree with me. Very Happy

Oh, and why NFFatRoD when you can run Home and Hearth/Merry, Swordthain. Dain, seriously, Gondor/Rohan DO dabble in burden removing, they have ST/WoBaS with Home and Hearth. Giving them more would be disastrous. People have already called for banning Home and Hearth because now ALL cultures have burden removing, even Dwarves if you want! Notice that NOBODY runs corruption anymore? Wonder why? Matter of fact, the two corruption decks I run have to have an alternate win condition (both grind), in order to even compete! My main corruption deck (Gates of the Dead City) has turned into a burden manipulator deck, for the sole reason that you can’t get enough burdens to corrupt anymore!

Gah! Its just not worth arguing anymore. menace seems to think any culture can have anything, at which i just hang me head and give up in the face of insanity.

Lets just make all cultures have every type of card and mechanism so theyre all the same have no weakness and the game gets boring. FUN STUFF!

Wow, I guess I sparked off a debate here...

Anyways, I modified all the cards a bit. I like the idea of Rohan having a little burden removal, I mean they are arguably the weakest culture in the game without good condition removal or burden removal. Plus most Rohan decks have easy access to Merry ST with Home and Hearth; now they just have the option of instead running Aragorn with my new card.
