Strategy
Fellowship
Use Pippin to protect early, because you will give a ton of twilight. Pull Aragorn ASAP with Prancing Pony. Legolas makes it harder for your opponent to play important shadow cards. Using pippin to shadowplay weakens minions, then aragorn and legolas in the archery phase, then the Bow of the Galadhrim can help too. Smeagol is the main fighter, with Merry helping out a lot. Most of the companions can be fairly strong if needed. The idea is to run like crazy, killing minion with WIngfoot and discarding them with Slow Kindled Courage. Make the opponent run to keep up, and then kill them with Shelob. Unless they don’t want to run, in which case you can arrive safely at nine long before they do.
Shadow
Get Shelob out as quick as you can and start pulling webs and larder. Discarding orcs to larder helps you cycle, but moreimportantly it makes Shelob stronger. Only play enough orcs to fill your web, and always start Shelob and Gollum each time you play them. Sometimes you will be able to use Snows and swarm your opponent early, but this deck normally dosen’t do anything until site 5 or 6. By that time you should have Shelob a base of 24 to 30, with enough tokens on larder to make her in the 40’s or so. And she is fierce. That should be sufficient to kill some companions. Then you stack her and do it all over again next turn. Keep in mind that Web and Larder are BOTH possessions, so they are a little more difficult to get rid of. Blood runs chill and Knights with Fortifications wreck Shelob, so you will need to try to pull off a swarm early if you are going to kill them. Nothing like staring down a 68 strength spider!! |

Yeah, I try to stay with Open decks because the only tournaments I run are open tournaments. There is way more variety, and an unexpected deck seems to pop up every week. The meta changes all time. It is great to see what people can come up with. I have some standard decks, but I just don’t think they are as much fun as the open ones. |

Well, just watch for this in an open tourny:
Aragorn, Heir To The White City with 4x No Stranger To The Shadows
and a Bill The Pony.
Imagine a choke deck worse than solo smeagle, but with 4 rangers and a Frodo.
It was my first deck design when I started playing LOTR ...right before they all went x-listed. |
Some of the best scenarios on EE...

Yeah, I have dealt with that, Hence the saruman’s powers. I can go to orc swarm if I need to with saruman’s snows backup. It is actually a fairly versitile shadow side. |
