Riddle. Toil 1. To play, spot Gollum or a riddle.
You may add to play this condition during the maneuver phase.
Each companion and ally at an underground site is strength -1 (or -2 if they have resistance 2 or less).
“‘It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, / Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt. / It lies behind stars and under hills, /And empty holes it fills. / It comes first and follows after, / Ends life, kills laughter.’”
I think it oughta remove instead of adding to play it out of phase. That being said, is there much of an advantage to playing it during the maneuver phase instead of the shadow phase? It seems like it’d be much better if you could remove to play it during the skirmish phase.

Riddle. To play, spot Gollum or a riddle.
Each time the fellowship moves, add (or spot Gollum to add [X], where X is the current region number).
“‘This thing all things devours: / Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; / Gnaws iron, bites steel; / Grinds hard stones to meal; / Slays king, ruins town, / And beats high mountain down.’”
I’d drop the cost to 0.
Great cards!

I tweaked Dark a bit more, AC. Thanks!
Dáin’s DC Duos #38
More cards revolving around riddles today. The routine is the same as it has been lately: a couple reviews by mid-afternoon means another Duo later today. And for those who have not reviewed cards in this thread yet, remember that you get a for your first review.
Anyways, here’s the cards. Enjoy!
Mountain
Event • Response
Riddle. To play, spot Gollum (or Sméagol) or a riddle.
If the fellowship moves to a mountain or underground site, add a burden (or two burdens if the Ring-bearer is a Hobbit).
“‘What has roots as nobody sees, / Is taller than trees, / Up, up it goes, / And yet never grows?’”
I don’t think I really need to say anything about this, do I?
Not Fair! Not Fair!
Event • Skirmish
Spot a riddle and exert Gollum to add a threat for each riddle you can spot. If you cannot add at least 2 threats, add a burden.
“‘It isn’t fair, my precious, is it, to ask us what it’s got in its nassty little pocketses?’”
Is this too expensive? I thought about making it cost just . |

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

Dáin’s DC Duos #39
Okay, I got a couple reviews on the last Duo, so it’s time to hold up my end of the deal: another Duo. This one’s more of the same: riddles. Enjoy!
Let It Give Us A Chance
Event • Response
If a Free Peoples riddle is played, exert Gollum to cancel all effects of that riddle and return it to the top of its owner’s draw deck. The Free Peoples player may heal Gollum twice and add a burden to prevent this.
“‘The answer’s not a kettle boiling over, as you seem to think from the noise you are making.’”
I know the healing twice may seem a bit much, but if my understanding is correct, the first heal would just undo Gollum’s exertion, right? So really, it’s only healing him once from where he started out.
But unless you’re willing to do that, it can be very hard to play FP riddles with Gollum around. The culture has a bunch in Lasting Alliances, so that can really hurt.
•Riddles In The Dark
Condition • Support Area
Riddle. To play, spot Gollum or Sméagol.
Each time you play a riddle, you may add a threat.
Maneuver: Discard this condition to play a riddle from your draw deck or discard pile.
“‘If precious asks, and it doesn’t answer, we eats it, my preciousss. If it asks us, and we doesn’t answer, then we does what it wants, eh?’”
This is the centerpiece of any riddle-focused Gollum. It turns all riddles into threat-adding cards, and that can really hurt a couple FP cultures (like Men) and help other Shadow cultures (like the yet-to-be-seen Smaug). But Riddles In The Dark also lets you pull a specific riddle when you need it...or when you need it again from your discard pile.
Got plans tonight, so this is (probably) it for today. But tune in tomorrow for more! |

Thanks for the reviews, everyone! I’ve been getting very timely reviews lately, and I greatly appreciate it. Ya’ll rock.

I almost did that, actually, but with AP and MoS saying it’s okay as is, I’m gonna go with the majority unless someone else weighs in later and agrees with healing just once.

You misunderstood a little bit. It hurts certain cultures because of the threat adding, that’s all. Clearer now?

I really, really wasn’t planning on it, but with three reviews of the last Duo already and an hour before folks arrive, I guess I can do one more Duo. Heck, as I write this, it’s not even 4:00 yet! |
