I think it oughta remove 1 instead of adding 1 to play it out of phase. That being said, is there much of an advantage to playing it during the maneuver phase instead of the shadow phase? It seems like it’d be much better if you could remove 1 to play it during the skirmish phase.

More Gollum cards revolving around riddles today. The routine is the same as it has been lately: a couple reviews by mid-afternoon means another Duo later today. And for those who have not reviewed cards in this thread yet, remember that you get a GP for your first review. Smile

Anyways, here’s the cards. Enjoy!

1 Mountain Gollum
Event • Response
Riddle. To play, spot Gollum (or Sméagol) or a Gollum riddle.
If the fellowship moves to a mountain or underground site, add a burden (or two burdens if the Ring-bearer is a Hobbit).
“‘What has roots as nobody sees, / Is taller than trees, / Up, up it goes, / And yet never grows?’”

I don’t think I really need to say anything about this, do I?

1 Not Fair! Not Fair! Gollum
Event • Skirmish
Spot a riddle and exert Gollum to add a threat for each riddle you can spot. If you cannot add at least 2 threats, add a burden.
“‘It isn’t fair, my precious, is it, to ask us what it’s got in its nassty little pocketses?’”

Is this too expensive? I thought about making it cost just 1.

Okay, I got a couple reviews on the last Duo, so it’s time to hold up my end of the deal: another Duo. This one’s more of the same: Gollum riddles. Enjoy!

1 Let It Give Us A Chance Gollum
Event • Response
If a Free Peoples riddle is played, exert Gollum to cancel all effects of that riddle and return it to the top of its owner’s draw deck. The Free Peoples player may heal Gollum twice and add a burden to prevent this.

I know the healing twice may seem a bit much, but if my understanding is correct, the first heal would just undo Gollum’s exertion, right? So really, it’s only healing him once from where he started out.

But unless you’re willing to do that, it can be very hard to play FP riddles with Gollum around. The Shire culture has a bunch in Lasting Alliances, so that can really hurt.

1Riddles In The Dark Gollum
Condition • Support Area
Riddle. To play, spot Gollum or Sméagol.
Each time you play a riddle, you may add a threat.
Maneuver: Discard this condition to play a Gollum riddle from your draw deck or discard pile.
“‘If precious asks, and it doesn’t answer, we eats it, my preciousss. If it asks us, and we doesn’t answer, then we does what it wants, eh?’”

This is the centerpiece of any riddle-focused Gollum. It turns all riddles into threat-adding cards, and that can really hurt a couple FP cultures (like Gandalf Men) and help other Shadow cultures (like the yet-to-be-seen Smaug). But Riddles In The Dark also lets you pull a specific riddle when you need it...or when you need it again from your discard pile.

I almost did that, actually, but with AP and MoS saying it’s okay as is, I’m gonna go with the majority unless someone else weighs in later and agrees with healing just once.

You misunderstood a little bit. It hurts certain cultures because of the threat adding, that’s all. Clearer now?
