I think all current ARB’s have enough reasons for being so. Gimli is not an ARB just because he was at the council, but he talked about the dwarves taking the ring, so there you go. Isildur, Bilbo and Sméagol are obvious. Sam was with Frodo for the whole time and even offered himself to bear the ring. Faramir almost took it, actually he did take (not in his hands, but capturing frodo) but then regretted and let Frodo go. Galadriel wanted it for herself for a moment. Boromir wanted it real bad and even took it in his hands. Frodo was about to give it to Gandalf to bear the ring, but he refused.
I think it’s all pretty fair for the idea of ARB’s. A ARB wouldn’t make sense for me since they didn’t came close to the ring at all... it would be too much creativity to say that Éomer could have taken the ring, and this possibility is not even discussed in the movie. No rohirrim never said anything about it. |

some of it makes sense story-wise. We are talking story wise whether it makes sense. Though how a lackey can kill main companions isn’t very story-friendly |

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. |

A ARB makes perfect sense. What really happened to the Ring was this...
Isildur took it, and then was waylaid by Orcs. The Ring slipped off his finger, and sank into the depths of A FISH’S BELLY! At which point an osprey or some other carnivorous bird swooped down, grabbed the fish, and carried it off to its nest. After the fish had been eaten, the bird coughed up the Ring, and it fell right onto the Road. Some random guy picked it up, but then got trampled by a few random horses, so another random guy picked it up, whose eyes got gouged out by the osprey, who was crushed by a rock falling from the sky, which landed on the Ring, and sank into the mud.
After a few hundred years, some guys building a town moved the rock and found the Ring. One of them put it on, but it changed its size and crunched the guy’s finger off. They decided to get rid of it, and so they tied it to a horse’s tail. The horse (who turned out to be from Rohan) ran to Rohan. The stable master found the Ring, and gave it to the present king of Rohan. The king didn’t like it, so he gave it to his son, who thought it was a giant metal ring. Hence, he sewed it onto his chain mail shirt.
Present day: Eomer was given the legendary Chain Mail Shirt with Huge Golden Ring for his birthday, at which point he took the Ring, becoming the Ring-bearer. |
I had to put something here. |

I can’t decide which I like better, AP’s story of how Eomer got the Ring or TheShyzle’s story of how Elrond got the Ring. |
