That’s good, since Coldsnap is a continuation of the Ice Age storyline...
I’m not very familiar with the early Magic: the Gathering sets, but I’d say Arabian Nights seems desert-oriented. |

Yeah, Arabian Nights was desert-themed, alright, with cards like Ali from Cairo, Camel, and even, yes, Desert. They already have the next two sets planned (Time Spiral set and Rock, Paper, Scissors), so it doesn’t look like they’ll follow up Coldsnap with another desert-themed *shrug*
Check out the buzz behind Time Spiral, though; it will have a whopping 422 cards!!! There is a lot of speculation as to whether this means lots of reprints, something new (a la Equipment or Arcane spells, or maybe even a new color?), or just a lot of jank.
There is a nice speculation thread over at the Wizards Forums, but they seem to be down at the moment... |

About Coldsnap:
As you all know, Magic comes into blocks on 3 editions (as in LotR), and usually they’re all related, since they’re part from the same novel. It was thesame with Ice Age, back in 1995 (back then, Editions were released much more slowly). The next year, 1996, Alliances was released, the second edition of the block. However, when they were planning the third (and last) edition, some internal political problems arose, and the guys creating it were "flipped off". Then, they releasedan Edition called Homelands, but it never REALLY fit as the LAST edition of the block (since it didn’t bring closure to the novel). Then, some time ago, when Wizards was moving, they found the first sketches of cards and abilities, and decided to re-open the project. They DID, of course, alter the cards to fit nowadays rulings, put it in a new frame, and released Coldsnap! So, if by any chance you happen to play an Ice Age block tournament, Coldsnap WILL be legal, and Homelands won’t. Also, COldsnap will be legal in Standard, and will even have theme decks packing some cards from Ice Age and Alliances, with they’re rulings altered and in the new frames (but these won’t be standard-legal, since they’re, in all manners, part of the Ice Age and Alliances blocks, long ago rotated). Oh, yeah, and in case you might be asking, Homelands now is a "lost" Edition, blockless. And the guys on Wizards don’t seem to car at all. |
I don't like YOU. |

Hehe, yeah, Homelands doesn’t deserve to belong to a block. Only good thing to come out of Homelands was Apocalypse Chime . Oh, okay, the Sengir family was cool, and so was Joven’s Ferrets, because Ferrets rock!
Gold coin for the informative article, Felipe! |
