Three twilight and spotting another follower is a pretty steep requirement. But once you get him into play, Meneldor, Misty Mountain Eagle becomes a very efficient card -- a 1-cost skirmish pump that can help out again and again.
There are only three followers in print, plus two Rise of Saruman followers spoiled so far, but I strongly suspect we’ll be seeing more Eagles in the near future! |

Oh yeah! This card ROCKS! SWEET! COMPLETELY AWESOME!
Ok, I have control of myself now.
Seriously, comboing this guy with all the other followers gives a strength +5 bonus! For ! Barliman Butterbur just got a huge pump for his follower strategy. I LOVE THIS CARD! I am definitely printing this one out and using, whether my friends say I can or not. (Ok, if they say no, I guess I have to follow the rules. )
Anyway, sweet card. Definitely a 5. How strong is Barliman Butterbur now, 16, 17? |

Only 4 other followers exist so far (Meneldor doesn’t count himself). But I think a +5 bonus isn’t unreasonable by the time Rise of Saruman makes its way into actual decks!
With all (call it 6) of these followers attached to somebody, Barliman Butterbur, Red-faced Landlord could have 10 strength. (Plus whatever bonuses he gets from followers attached to him, of course, but that’s not particularly interesting since other companions can get those benefits just as easily.) Realistically speaking, you won’t see all of your followers that quickly, and you won’t always want to attach them anyway. So I say Butterbur is still a scrub most of the time. |

Meneldor is expensive, but he might be worth the 3 twilight. I’m not sure yet - I’ll have to see what the other cards do in this set.
Barliman with all 5 followers attached and 4 copies of Strange Meeting... cool. He has 18 strength, and each minion skirmishing him loses all strength bonuses from possessions and those minions are also each strength -1.
It may be possible to make a follower deck based on strength! Now if only gets a card similar to Community Living. |

i LOVE this card. I decided to make an interesting Gandalf/wounding deck which cycles amazingly using gandalfs discard and lots of mustard. i dont know how effective it will be, but one can only imagine.
Starting fellowship
•Gandalf, Bearer of Obligation
•The One Ring, The Ring of Rings
•Barliman Butterbur, Red-faced Landlord (gets beastly w/ followers)
•Brand, King of Dale (anti-swarm)
49 cards not counting starting fellowship
(5)
•Járnsmid, Barding Emissary (removes a few burdens then burns or dies)
•Treebeard, Enraged Shepard (2) (destroys)
•Erland, Dale Counselor (cycles and burns)
•Radagast, The Brown (only to use in clutch situations)
Followers: (5)
Pallando, Far-travelling One
•Gwaihir, The Windlord
•Alatar, Final Envoy
•Radagast, Tender of Beasts
•Meneldor, Misty Mountain Eagle
Possessions: (
•Glamdring, Foe-Hammer (2)
•Gandalf’s Staff, Ash Staff (2)
Shadowfax, Greatheart
Ent-Draught (2) (1 vit. Exert for 1 dam.)
•Narya (1 vit. Add 3 remove burden)
Conditions: (
Echoes of Valinor (if gandi wins skrim exert to draw twice)
Behold the White Rider (2) (unique condition that wounds minions every time Gandlaf wins skrimish)
Watch and Wait (1) (removes a burden each time bearer wins skrimish)
Strange Meeting (4) (more cycling and amazing strength bonuses)
Events (23)
For A While Less Dark (2) (+4 pump for any follower-bearing companian.
Saved From the Fire (3) (burns to catch key cards.)
Terrible and Evil (4) (exert gandalf x to wound x)
Fury of the White Rider (2) ( manuever: exert Gandalf and spot 3 twilits to wound a minion twice)
Have Patience (4) (double heal)
Staff Asunder (2) (discard a staff gandalf has and exert him twice to discard a minion hes skrimishing)
Servant of the Secret Fire (1) (spot gandalf for –3 of any minion)
Orc bane (1) (exert bearer of glamdring x times to wound x orcs/uruks)
Out of High Airs (3) (exert gandlaf to discard every minion in regroup)
A Wizard is Never Late (1) (plays companians)
lets think, barley strength 9 and then plop •Meneldor, Misty Mountain Eagle to make him strength 14, decent, decent. and then with four copies of strange meeting out there suddenly this kid is 18 strength |

I prefer vinegar.
This card is only going to see playing time in follower decks, which aren’t going to be any good themselves until we get some more cards like Barliman and Strange Meeting. That being said, having Meneldor and Barliman in the same set implies that there are more to come. |
