Okay, Dain. I couldn’t wait for you to start this thread, so I went ahead and got the ball rolling.
Basically, this thread is for creating companions with the Ring-bound keyword.
And, to start:
•Aragorn, Sworn by the Sword
Companion • Man
Strength-7
Vitality-4
Resistance-8
Ring-bound. Ranger.
If Frodo is the Ring-bearer, while he is unwounded, Aragorn is strength +2.
Response: If Frodo is about to take a wound, exert Aragorn to prevent that.
"’If by life or death I can protect you, I will.’"
Stuff like that! |
Riddle 9
When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.
Who am I? |

Pretty cool. How about something REALLY crazy, like this:
•Hold To Your Purpose
Condition • Support Area
If Frodo is the Ring-bearer, each companion with the Frodo signet is Ring-bound.
“‘The Ring-bearer is setting out on the Quest of Mount Doom....May the blessings of Elves and Men and all Free Folk go with you.’” |
Best regards, Dáin, Vice Aftokrator of the Chosen Ones
Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

Yowsa! That is really crazy! But it’s really cool, too. I like the idea of bringing back signets. |

So if I did something like that in my DC sets (which have signets), you’d give it a ? |

Oh, yeah! Signets were a really cool method of synergy that never really launched. They essentially reached across cultures and beyond subcultures. I love the idea of bringing back signets! |

Good. Then make sure you peak at my Duos and The Road Ahead set when I’m doing FP cultures, because they appear at least as much as resistance. I agree with you wholeheartedly that they have lots of untapped potential.
Anyway, here’s another Gondorian member of the Fellowship:
•Boromir, Defender of the Little Ones
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Signet: Frodo
Ring-bound. Ranger.
Boromir is strength +1 for each wound on him.
Skirmish: Exert Boromir to have him replace an unbound Hobbit in a skirmish.
“‘Have hope! I am weary, but I still have some strength left, and Aragorn too. We will bear the little folk.’” |

Wastes of Gorgoroth [Site]
Plains. When the fellowship moves from this site, the Free Peoples player must exert an unbound companion.
Ithilien Woods [Site]
Forest. At the start of your fellowship phase, you may heal a Ring-bound companion twice. |

Sweet. It’s like Gimli, Counter of Foes with automatic exertion text! With armor, this would be very nice. Oh, wow. This would combo insanely with Pippin, Wearer of Black and Silver. |
