When I first saw him, I immediately thought of Eomer, Horsemaster. The 2 companions are very similar, besides the fact that Eomer will generally start out with 9 strength compared to Haldir’s 6.

The reason that Eomer, Horsemaster is used in many decks is because he allows you to include Rohan cards that are only good against certain decktypes. This Haldir is the same way; suddenly, using Stand Against Darkness, Foul Creation, Curse Their Foul Feet, Lorien’s Blessing, and more doesn’t seem like a bad idea. If you aren’t playing against that deck, just ditch it in skirmish for a -2 strength reduction on a minion that Haldir is fighting.

Haldir can also exert to use his ability in a pinch. Sometimes it’s smarter to just take a wound from losing the skirmish, instead of discard cards and exerting Haldir just to win. But don’t do this against minions that are damage +1 or trigger when they win a skirmish.

Haldir gets a solid 4 from me. He is a cool guy, but he isn’t game-changing.

He makes Elf Refuge decks more playable, in my opinion. Now you can use your Elf companions to win fights not just heal at the start of the turn. I’m very excited about using him, and not just because he is the first playable Haldir that has been printed.

A playable Haldir. I’m so amazingly happy! Mr. Green

Any hate I felt for Decipher has now abated.

*Remebers Soldier’s Cache and the printing of Strange-Looking Men*

Never mind.

I like the card. A very solid 4.
Happy Hunting! Elf Lvr

Ok, I hereby call for popular demand so elf lvr will restore his Avatar to full glory by embracing this new Haldir as his pic!
I don't like YOU.

This Haldir is rather vanilla. His ability isn’t that powerful.
All cards do what they say.

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz

While this Hildar has great potential to weaken minions, I don’t believe he is an excellent card. His base strength is lower that even non-unique companions these days, and his vitality is nothing out of the ordinary. Personally, I’m surpired they didn’t give him Hunter 1. A medicore 3 from me.

A hunter bonus would be neat, but he seems good, especially in an Elvents deck. A 4 from me. Smile
I had to put something here.

I gave it a 4, mostly because I think having a Haldir with 6 strength starting was LONG overdue. His skirmish ability isn’t anything game-breaking, but the versatility is very, very nice; lets you change your strategy with him on the fly.

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!

Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North!
