Lets say your opponent plays a Wrath of God and, inresponse, you counter it. Your Opponent however, plays last word. Can't you just wait until the spell resolves and then counter the Wrath of God just like how you do it with the umezawa's jitte's charge counters?

Right. In this case it doesn't matter that Last Word can't be countered, because your second counterspell can just as easily target the Wrath of God instead.

I'm not familiar with the Jitte charge counter trick though... Smile

Maybe he means sometimes they activate both counters at once and you can shock the creature in response... I don’t know of any others.

what ilvaldi means is that even if they can uncounterably counter your counterspell, you can counter the origional anyway, just not the counterspell.

I doubt that this is correct because I remember reading somewhere that a spell can’t be countered twice. I can’t seem to remember where it is, though; you may need to ask a judge lvl 2-3 for this. Never trust level one judges, especially on any resonably hard question.

technically, a spell can’t be countered twice, however, ti can be targeted by 2 different counterspells. However, once one of the counterspells is allowed to resolve the other will be countered because of a lack of legal target.

Your first counterspell won’t even resolve- it will be countered by their counterspell. (I think) which is why you can "double counter". If yours resolved, the spell is countered, so you can’t.

well, what I meant about the charge counters for jitte is this:

Before combat damage goes on the stack, I’ll remove one charge counter to give my 2/2 +2/+2. Will you do anything before the ability resolves?

After the ability resolves, or my opponent decides to shock it, I’ll remove another charge counter.

By doing this, I am forcing my opponent to play his threats while at the same time successfully dealing damage to my opponent and saving my creature from harmful burn spells
