I don’t like his subtitle - in a very real sense, Gandalf in middle-earth is NOT a Maiar, he is an immortal spirit in a mortal body, but so are the Elves, and the longer he lives in the mortal realms, the more mortal he becomes (and this is about 5000 years by the War of the Ring). I’d prefer ’Messenger from Valinor’ or some other title indicating his mission on middle-earth. Nice and powerful card.

Blame Wikipedia, I went there to try and find a decent subtitle for big G, and that’s what it told me he is. Wikipedia’s actually very helpful in finding subtitles, especially for those of us who haven’t read any of the books.

Yes, Gandalf is a Maia, but in middle-earth he isn’t - he’s a Wizard. In Valinor, his name was Olorin and was one of the Maiar of Aule the smith of the Valar, but then he was sent to middle-earth and he stopped being a Maia and became one of the Istari instead. His name actually has Elf in it (’Alf’ is ’Elf’ in Norse) and I would argue he was far more of an Elf in middle-earth than an angel.
And you should DEFINITELY read the books - just miss out all the poetry and you’ll be fine!

Nice, but I’d make it cost - especially because it’s a spell.

What scene were you thinking of? When Legolas shoots at Gandalf in Fangorn? I think it should also cost and be a spell.

What does this card represent? Is it where all the guilty ancient texts are imprisoned - because that’s what it sounds like! Weird and interesting. No idea how balanced it is. Maybe too expensive.

Very very cool. Needs to cost for the fetching ability, and maybe make the second one 2 burdens or 2 burdens if a certain condition is met.

It’s about your subtitle again, I’m afraid.
Firstly, ’Maiar’ is the plural, as is ’Valar’. ’Maia’ and ’Vala’ are the respective singulars.
Secondly, you wouldn’t say for Boromir ’Son of the Steward Denethor’, you’d just call him ’Son of Denethor’. Similarly, this should be ’Maia of Oromë’, and if that’s your theme, Gandalf’s subtitle should be ’Maia of Aulë’, or they should both be ’Maia of Valinor’.
The spell ability is far far too good for one simple reason: Radagast’s Herb Bag that can exert to wound a minion each time a spell is played. Take it out, and the other ability is more than enough to make him amazing (maybe with +1 resistance if you’re worried).

His burden removal ability is too good - it’s easy, fast and simple burden removal for ANY culture and ANY deck that also gives you a strength and resistance bonus. Add some cultural enforcement on it, for either or companions, whichever takes your fancy. Always be careful about followers - remember new chapter and erkenbrand’s horn, a combo which wouldn’t have been a problem if Decipher had culturally enforced followers enough.

I’d prefer if this card had an effect without bearing shadowfax. Also, compared to out of the high airs, the second ability is rubbish.

Two exertions is too much, I’d replace the ’and’ with ’or’. Fun card.

Take out the brackets, increase the cost, or limit the companions that can be healed (like farewell to lorien). Good.
