I don’t know about that, I’d say they’re both very good games. Earlier on, LotR would win me over in a blink, but after some stuff they did (specially creating Initiative and threats in King Block, and practically thrashing allies out of block play, only to kill them forever later; not to mention the whole Adventure Path thing, and money-making sets in the end) really dropped their standard. Although, even though it’s still a close tie!
OTOH, MtG TOURNAMENTS pwns all (except one LotR tournament I played in full-table mode at the top 8, everyone for themselves! sooo cool!) |

Once I got over the ally disappointment in Towers block (I love the elves and hobbits) I really liked what they did with them in not allowing them to fight unless called into battle. Allies in general were too cost effective for the benefits you got for them. Followers, for the most part, are what Allies should have been from the beginning...
