Yeah. You play an event of the assaulter’s culture in the assaulter’s skirmish and that minion gets plus x strength.
Sound good? |

Balance - The fellowship is balanced if it has less than 6 companions. It becomes unbalanced if it has 6 or more companions. Shadows and fellowship will take advantage of both.
Don’t need it. Just use the typical rule of 5.
Ardor - If no companions have died this turn the free peoples player has Ardor. If a companion dies, for the rest of the turn the shadow has Ardor.
Kinda like initiative?
Loaded Keywords
Guardian X - While you can spot more minions than companions bearer gains defender + X.
(Inspired by the brave defense of the free peoples in the face of defeat.)
Nice.
Assaulter X - Each time a shadow skirmish event is played during a skirmish involving a minion of the same culture it is strength + X.
Nice.
Resourceful - The twilight cost of each card played on bearer is -1.
Bland. But decent.
Unloaded Keywords
Invader - Orc and Men minions will take advantage of this like Besieger or Beserker.
Like it.
The without further ado, in classic style the first spoiler will be a version of The One Ring.
The One Ring, The Master Ring
Strength: +1
Resistance: +1
Maneuever: Add a burden to wear the One Ring until the regroup phase.
While wearing The One Ring each time bearer is about to take a wound add a burden instead.
"...he forged in secret a master ring..."
This ring’s better than the other. Vitality would be nice.
Be gentle its my first DC set
It is?

Interesting keywords and mechanics (I look forward to seeing them in action, and it’s a great idea to have one of them embedded into your ring) but I don’t see any reason why it can’t be Resourceful X.

Yes it’s an English word, but not a common one.
Oxford English Dictionary wrote: Ardour - 1. (a feeling of) ardent passion or desire; eagerness, intensity of feeling. 2. (a) fierce or burning heat; fire. 3. a radiant spirit.
It comes from the Latin ’ardere’ meaning ’to burn’.

Erm thanks for that Thran!
Also resourceful X is way too powerful. Its going to be a bonus keyword like muster. Not something key to gameplay but a nice little addition.
Anyway im happy with the ring and the general feedback so on with the next culture! The Orcs.
Here’s a few ones to get you started with the new mechanisms.
Warrior Orc
Minion • Orc
Strength: 7
Vitality: 2
Site: 4
Invader.
If the shadow has Ardor, this minion is strength +3 for each companion in the dead pile.
"New forces of the enemy were hastening..."
C
• Battlefield Master
Minion • Orc
Strength: 14
vitality: 3
Site: 4
To play spot an Orc.
While the fellowship is balanced, this minion is fierce.
While the fellowship is unbalanced, this minion is damage +1.
While this minion is at a battleground it is strength +2.
"... hewing any man that they found abroad, living or dead."
R
Warrior Goblin
Minion • Orc
Strength: 9
vitality: 2
Site: 4
Assaulter 2. Invader.
At the start of each skirmish involving this minion, if the shadow has Ardor, you may exert this minion to take an skirmish event into hand from your discard pile.
"The vanguard passed through the trenches of fire..."

Nice one. No complaints other than the title. Why not go with the theme so ’Battlefield Orc’?

is probably better, or reducing his strength by 2. Also not a big fan of the title, but nice card.

Good use of abilities to support keywords, but same problem with the title.

Ill wait for some other reviews (hint DI and SoP) but will probably change the cost to 6 for the master. Thanks for the encouraging words though Thran.
As regards the names. Well there are 18 odd sets from Decipher. Countless DC sets on here and naming random miscellaneous orcs is getting tough. Im not going to change the titles as i have 2 themes going on like Black Land guys dealt with threats for example.
Battlefield will be generic Orcs which will fit into normal gameplay. Warrior will be used like gorgoroth did with besiegers, but will be for my new keyword Invader for the Orcs.
I will start to group my spoilers in a more orderly fashion from now on but just wanted to show you some of the new keywords. Though they do crop up a lot in my set. |
