I like that. Done.
I think I’ll go ahead and start doing semi-regular postings of cards from The Way Into Mordor now. And furthermore, I think we’ll start with Gondor.
Aside from cards focused around Aragorn, and those focused around Faramir’s rangers (including the return of Ring-bound Men), one big part of the culture in this set is cards from the scene from the extended version of the Two Towers film, where Boromir and Faramir share in happy times in Osgiliath before being split apart...forever, as it turns out.
So what better way to start that then with the brother themselves? Enjoy!
• Boromir & • Faramir, Sons of the Steward
Companions • Men
Strength: 13
Vitality: 3
Signet: Aragorn
Knight. Ranger.
Skirmish: Exert Boromir & Faramir to make each Man strength +1 until the regroup phase. Limit twice per turn.
Response: If a Hobbit or Man companion is about to take a wound, exert Boromir & Faramir and discard a card from hand to prevent that and wound a minion not assigned to a skirmish.
I wouldnt add the limit. If you want to exhaust your guy(s) if they added vitality then it would be risky so u should be allowed.
I wouldnt have added SoP’s suggestion thats just not necessary at all. Youre already able to prevent any wound to rohan gondor or hobbits. Thats fine as it is.
Sound otherwise. |

About your hunters, I think that basically they’re all totally OP and their weapons even more so. A /8/3/6 archer hunter companion with an ability to reduce people’s strength is simply phenomenal, as is weapons that can add up to 5 strength - just because Decipher printed similar overpowered hunters does not mean you have to. Thorongil, for example, a /10/4/8 hunter Aragorn with an amazing ability is simply too much, and just because Decipher made it doesn’t mean you should follow it as an example for your hunters cards.
Also, since when was Gandalf a hunter of any sort?
A Marvel Among the Three Kindreds, however, is a solid card.

Do you not add their vitality together as well? Cool and probably fine - seems to be enforced to me.

But they cost , prevent you from playing either Boromir or Faramir and you can’t use their abilities unless you have some cards. I just can’t see a serious problem.

you can still splash them. I just think that there should be a spotting requirement. |

I understand your concern, SoP, but I think the brothers are okay as they are. The truth is, for the same twilight it would normally cost to play them, you’re getting one less strength than normal (they would normally combine for at least 14), and the abilities are either greatly weakened (as is the case for the skirmish ability) or all but useless (since the response ability requires discarding a card from hand) without being in a -heavy deck, so they’re pretty well culturally enforced, in my opinion. Since the majority seem to think they’re alright, including myself, I’m afraid you’re the odd man out. Sorry, old buddy.
Would it be better if I got rid of the wounding a minion bit from the response ability? Or perhaps limited it to unbound companions? |

We’ll continue more with the Boromir side of the brothers, as he and his knights make up the bulk of the Osgiliath-centered cards rather than Faramir and his rangers.
So, here we have the set’s second version of the great Gondorian, as well as his gear. Enjoy!
•Boromir, Captain of the White Tower
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Signet: Aragorn
Knight.
While you can spot 2 other companions, Boromir is damage +1.
Regroup: Exert Boromir and spot 3 knights to liberate a site or play a fortification from your discard pile.
“‘My place is here with my people.’”
A little secret: this is actually the first companion DC I ever made, back before Hero of Osgiliath even existed. (We’re talking pre-Shadows days here!) At the time, I couldn’t believe Big D hadn’t made a card based on Boromir in his knight garb, so I did it myself. Then I decided to make a few more DCs after that, then some more, and before I knew it, I had several whole sets in the works.
Anyway, this guy has seen numerous revisions over the years, but I’m not outright opposed to a few more if you see a problem with him.
No plans right now for a new sword for Boromir (since I think the one from The Road Ahead is plenty good), but I have redone his horn since it’s featured rather prominently in The Two Towers, and added another possession that was notably absent from The Road Ahead. As you’ll see, Boromir becomes a beast when he wins skirmishes (and especially when he kills minions in the process).
•Horn of Boromir, Steward’s Heirloom
Possession • Horn
Bearer must be Boromir.
Maneuver: Exert Boromir to make a Man strength +1 (or +2 if that Man is Boromir, Faramir, or Aragorn) until the regroup phase.
Each time a minion is killed in a skirmish involving Boromir, you may heal a Man.
“‘....a great horn of the wild ox of the East, bound with silver, and written with ancient characters....it is said that if it be blown at need anywhere within the bounds of Gondor, as the realm was of old, its voice will not pass unheeded.’”
•Shield of Boromir, Rallying Point
Possession • Shield
Bearer must be Boromir.
Each minion skirmishing Boromir does not gain strength or damage bonuses from weapons.
Each time Boromir wins a skirmish, you may make a Man strength +1 until the regroup phase.
The shield that Boromir carried was of a singular design, so it would have been easily recognizable to his men when in combat. |

Quality, though at that point he didnt recognise Aragorn as the king so dunno if he should have that signet!

Ok, but only strength +1 for an exertion? Hmm i guess.

The wounding a minion bit could easily be cut, but I don’t think it needs to be.

Good ideas, but unfortunately rather rubbish. His regroup ability should exert him and spot 3 knights - exerting 2 guys for an ability that’s only useful against very specific deck types is not worth it. Also, I’d give him a second option for the ability, so maybe drawing cards or wounding minions.

Nice, and a great combo with the Boromir above. The low strength bonus is balanced as he can heal himself with the second ability.

Weird subtitle, and weird lore. Solid card, however.
