Okay, so I guess in Smaug, Vassal of the East you understand where the artifacts are coming from, and you get site stacking because it was what he did in the Battle of the Five Armies, but what have Shadow cultures got to do with anything? (oh and SoP, you misread it - 3 cultures makes his site number -3, not his twilight cost)

Say just "where X is the number of cultures you can spot". I think thats too nasty. Doesnt even require the all important exertion on smaug. Ive never liked NPE so i would never say i like it but even so it could get silly this is gonna be at least 2 or 3.

You’re right, it’s not arrows, but having it as a maneuver event with ’make the Free Peoples player place X wounds on their companions where X...’ seemed a little unnecessary! And it’s still a dangerous ranged attack.
Would these cards be better if they were just Shadow cultures?

| Yeah ok im on board with the archery thing though i think the maneuver thing would have been fine but the point might have been missed then. I think the first would be better with shadow cultures and the 2nd free peoples cultures. |

I think FP cultures only should be spotted. And probably EXERT Smaug.

Yeah, lem0n, one of my Smaugs was actually built around archery for the same reasons Thran did it: FIRE!  Go check out what I mean in Lasting Alliances (link’s in my sig).

I’m really trying to promote multiculture shadow, as you can see in my Dol Guldur thread, so if it’s a choice between FP only and Shadow only, it’s going to be Shadow. And that’s what I’ve done. Good?

cut cost to 1. Smaug is expensive, and with a max of 3-4 this isn’t that bad.

Terrible Approach
Event • Shadow
Choose one: spot Smaug and 2 Shadow cultures to take into hand a event from your discard pile; or exert Smaug and spot 3 Shadow cultures to take into hand a Shadow card from your discard pile.

Event • Regroup
Exert Smaug to make the Free Peoples player discard X Free Peoples cards from play, where X is the number of Shadow cultures you can spot.
H3 R 125
And the next in this Shadow cycle:
• The Lonely Mountain
Condition • Support Area
At the start of the maneuver phase, the Free Peoples player may discard a Free Peoples possession or artifact to Unlock this card until the regroup phase.
Smaug’s twilight cost is -2.
Locked: At the start of the assignment phase, the Free Peoples player may heal each companion.
