As a newcomer, I was wondering if a few of you could fill me in with CC’s backstory. Apparently most card titles are set to autolink to a picture of the card, which I assume was originally tied into CC’s search features. Now, of course, it comes up with a page saying you’ve reached the end of the world. Some questions:
-Why were the card images and pages removed?
-Is there any way to get a working autolink back?
-How about the Advanced Search?

As far as I know, Cobra pulled the card images and pages down once he stopped selling stuff, since it was from those pages that you could order the cards. |
Never kid about politicians. The more bizarre the joke, the more likely it is to come true. |

I’ve noticed that a long time ago, when a couple auto-links began to disappear. Writing articles began to look ugly, because half the links were there, and the other half were gone.
I wish Conor kept at least the advanced search going, but a guy does what he has to. Maybe he had bandwidth problems. |
My Trading List

Is there a way to contact him?
I don’t know how hard it is to code, but I could supply a list of both card titles and the relevant pages if he wanted to set up an autolink to the card images on my site. Seems like it would be a nice feature. |

So is the CC site just pretty much spinning ’round and ’round until it falls over and somebody alerts Conor to come back and fix it? |

Thats an amazingly accurate deduction. Well done! |

Does anyone have a backup plan for the day in which it goes permanently under? |

DI has been spearheading a move to get a permanent admin user (M_H was nominated) who can right the forums when they go down but Conor has said that isnt that simple. He has a really easy press this button to fix but only he has that and cant give it to anyone, so he is working on the forums "auto-fixing" themselves. Other than that its out of our hands. |

I still think having another admin or two would allow us to fix things as needed. I’ve run forums like this one before, and when you’re an admin, you can do virtually anything as far as maintenance goes.
There ARE a couple exceptions, as the "author" or "creator" has slightly more power than admins, but the cases where the author (in this case, of course, Cobra himself) would be needed are rather slim. I would bet ANY admin would be able to head off and/or fix the problems we’ve had when the forums HAVE gone down, and we could quit bugging Conor with it. |
Best regards, Dáin, Vice Aftokrator of the Chosen Ones
Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |
