Shadow: Exert this minion to take an Isengard condition that plays on or transfers to a character into hand from your draw deck or discard pile.
Saruman’s promises of riches and power led many to swear allegiance.

While skirmishing a Man, this minion is strength +2.
This minion is strength +1 for each Isengard condition borne by a companion he is skirmishing.
The wealth promised them led even some of the Riders of Rohan to betray their brothers-in-arms.

fine

I think he’s fine at 2 (maybe with a spotting requirement if you’re worried), but whatever.

Yeah, I like that better, actually. He’s back at 2 with a simple spotting requirement.

Since we’ve recently covered this guy in different cultures (Dunland and Wraith) and in a different set (this set’s predecessor, The Road Ahead), I figured we’d take a short break before getting back to more "normal" Isengard Men and do a familiar Southerner. Mr. Green Enjoy!

When you play Squint-eyed Southerner, the Free Peoples player must discard a card from hand (or 2 cards if you can spot Saruman).
Each time you play or transfer an Isengard condition onto a companion, you may exert an Isengard Man to make that companion strength -1 until the regroup phase.
“‘It seems plain now that that Southerner was a spy of Saruman’s....’”

Why is he here? I’ll let YOU read about it, if you’re curious. Long and short of it: he’s prominently mentioned in The Two Towers as being a servant of Saruman, and was probably chiefly responsible for bringing the wizard’s secret stash of pipeweed.

Anyway, in terms of gameplay, he has some text that’s rather unusual for Isengard Men (discardng from hand) and some text that REALLY fits in well (weakening companions when you throw conditions on them). How’s he look to YOU, faithful reviewer?

Good, but I’d make it "discard at random." Twisted Evil

hmmm i like it l this sop idea for - 2 rather than -1 (i dunno if i wanna trade an exertion for minusing a comps strenth by 1) would be a good idea. Other wise great idea and Good solid cards GP for bringing back Isengard.
i have never seen a deck built around it. there just isn’t enough cards out there...

Ugh...just been one of THOSE days. Neutral These’ll probably be the only new cards today in any of my threads, as my brain is simply fried. And they’re not incredibly interesting, but hey, every culture needs some simple stuff, right? Enjoy!

1 Men Will Fall Isengard (reprint)
Event • Skirmish
Spot Saruman or an Isengard Man to make an unbound companion strength -2 (or -3 if that companion bears an Isengard condition).
“‘The Ring of Barahir. So Gandalf Greyhame thinks he has found Isildur’s heir. The lost king of Gondor. He is a fool. The line was broken years ago.’”

Yep...straight reprint. Well, almost. The condition thing is new, and in my opinion, probably should have been there all along.

1 Grim and Horrible Isengard
Condition • Support Area
Make an Isengard or Dunland Man strength +2 (or +3 if you can spot Saruman).
“‘All Saruman’s people were marching away....And there were battalions of Men, too.’”

Just another simple pump. This won’t be the last time we see some direct Isengard/Dunland partnership, though.

2Servants of the White Hand Isengard
Condition • Support Area
Each time a companion is killed, you may take any number of Isengard cards borne by that companion into hand and heal Saruman and each Isengard Man.
“‘What was the promised price, Gríma? When all the men are dead, you will take your share of the treasure?’”

It really stinks when you take the time to throw a couple valuable conditions on a companion and then they die, taking your cards with them. Well no longer!

Good reprint. I forwent my customary cries of ’BROKEN!’ because you had actually changed it and might have thought I was serious! Wink

Looks good, but pretty rubbish for a Dunland pump which tend to be horribly nasty.

Love this one! Possibly just too useful however. Maybe a choice between the two would be better, otherwise there’s no Isengard Men deck where I wouldn’t want this card.
