you would have to wound/exert the mouth 2x before the shadow player got an action to do that. once pavise is out it usually stays out because of countless companies. if you could wound the mouth why not wound ferny instead?

Because Ferny’s not out yet, if the Shadow player’s going for Last Days Ferny.

Maneuver double exertion: Scouting, Merry’s Sword.

yeah he might not be, but playing ferny early isn’t always a bad idea. If he gets pavised then it won’t matter, but I always try to get one ferny in the discard pile in case last dies gets smashed I can pull him out of the discard with the easterlings.
I think the mouth is the key, so killing him is a good way to combat the deck. but you won’t stop it, only delay it a while. the only way to do what you are talking about is baruk khazad (which is no longer standard) or hobbits with shadowplay. otherwise you wound him once, he exerts to get pavise, and then you are out of luck. I think we are back to shadowplay as the best way to beat this deck.

Yup. Although the two I mentioned above also work. As long as you can spot 2 Rohan men for Merry’s Sword or can discard Smeagol for Scouting, you can get rid of Mouth or render him inoperable for a Pavise.

How about Slaked Thirsts? Can be replayed at every site with Preparations.

Shadowplay is still the best option though.

have a high strength RB is the best solution...
forth the three hunters
the flame of anor
isildur, boromir and gimli... galadriel with elven pumps
sudden fury

reliable solutions can be provided otherwise,
to my hunters tournament opinion, here are some cards that hurt Bill much without having to play them especially against him:

mellon!
shadowplay
legolas, fearless marksman

also, the deck is difficult to play against condition removal (on last days)

Of the many ways to beat ferny, I can only think that shadowplay would actually show up in a tourney. Shadowplay absolutely KILLS this deck. And there isn’t much you can do about it., except kill them before they get too many down.

Check this out:
Ferny is in the discard pile. Drop a bold or courageous easterling and put pavise on him. Skirmish time, discard the easterling to play ferny from the discard pile. no last days, no manuever wounding, no archery. In that situation, is there any realistic way to repeatedly stop ferny other than shadowplay, or being at Cavern Entrance??
