Hi im new here.  I dunno if there is already a topic on this, but is there such a thing as a program that allows you to make LOTR TCG cards?  Perhaps a program similar to Magic Set editor (http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/welcome)

I can't think of a computer program, but if you look at the chamber of marzubal (The forum, not the card) you'll find a whole bunch of cards made up by other members of the site.

Posting graphical dream cards is strictly against the rules of this site (http://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php?topic=278.0), not to mention a violation of Decipher and New Line Cinemas/Tolkien Enterprises copyright.

Bottom line = stick to the Chamber of Mazarbul forum to create text-only dream cards.

LMAO!!

Nah, I just don't like the thing with people being so picky about graphical dream cards. Yak yak yak I know it's not legal, tell me about it, but what the hey, let's have some fun.

Isn't there anyway to workaround. I'd like to see some new cards or new mechanics. Can't we ask decipher and New Line Cinema for an exception fan set (say once a year 8 cards or so) or something.

Maybe we could even convince them to give us the rights to make a sequel cardgame, playable with lotr, about the hobbit. We create the gametext, they provide the cards and take the profit?

THe problem is you would have to ask Tolkien Ltd about it as well, as they hold the right to to works of JRR Tolkien. And believe me, that will not be easy. The MECCG community looked at it as well after MECCG died.

Hopefully the LOTR templates for the Magic Editor program will be done soon. If they are still working on it. I bet if a bunch of us went over and made our interest known on their forum it would help.

If you start from scratch and create your own card template, then this is allowed and perfectly within the rules. It only becomes illegal if you use Decipher's template.

Which is something people have now been talking about doing since the game finished and still nothing has happened. I'm really not expecting that any time soon.

I agree with you. I've got the impression that nobody is taken action to it. There is an American guy who is saying that he's busy with it. But he's doing so for over 2 years now. I'm convinced that's going nowhere.

I like to give it another attempt. But then I need you people to back me up!

Well, get a petition going first. We need numbers to back up any request. I'd say we need 200-500 names to get some recognition. But even then there are no assurances.

The SWCCG Players' Committee could do what it did because they had permission from Decipher. We don't.

Actually the Players Committee for the WOTC SWTCG is not acting with any permission. One thing I can draw your attention to is that the WOTC SW TCG PC (wow, lots o' letters!) uses pictures from movies other than SW and photoshops the images. They are breaking all the so-called rules and have gotten away with it for years.

This is what Lucas has to say about using stuff from his movies. This is from Wookipedia

Doesn't look like it. On the SWCCG PC website, it says:

In 2001, Decipher lost the rights to make the card game, and were forced to stop printing it. At this point, Decipher worked with Lucasfilm Ltd. to give stewardship of the card game to members of the playing community. This group became the Star Wars: CCG Player's Committee and they were in charge of cultivating the game now that it was no longer in print.

This has not happened for LotR.

You are absolutely correct for Deciphers SWCCG PC, I am talking about Wizards of the Coasts TCG and PC. They do not have the close and legal agreemant that Decipher's PC does. The WOTC game group has gotten away with it for years now, I personally don't think we need to be so careful.

Update: This is the WOTC SWTCG IDC (or PC in our parlance): http://www.skywlkr.net/idc/index.asp Check out the Battle of Endor Expansion and look at Baron Soontir Fel, Pelleon, and Imperial Banker for an example of the IDC using images from at least 2 different franchises (Star Wars, 007, NFL(?), etc) I assure you they did not get permission for all of these images and templates. Though they might have tacit acceptance of WOTC for the templates, Lucas is very protective obviously-- even for nonprofit reasons, hence the SWCCG PC (Decipher) doesn't use official images.

It is not the same the the SWCCG PC and does not have the same relationship with Lucas as the Decipher game does.
