Birthday Present

BIRTHDAY PRESENT 10 R 104
If the Free Peoples player has only 1 event (or up to 4 copies of the same event, but no other Shire events) in his or her discard pile, that event is taken into hand.

Is this ruling correct? if so it seems like it would be something that could be abused.

I don't know if you could abuse it too much, at 2 burdens per use.... but maybe I'm missing something.

well, theoretically, this is a death loop. if you really wanted to get out of playing an lotr game, build a deck that packs 4x of these, get one in the discard pile and one in hand, and just keep adding a burden to take the other into hand. eventually you corrupt, and you get out of a game you didn't want to play.

Happy Birthday.

but since your opponent can't look into your discardpile you can choose 'not to find' another card and just take the one back you need? Right?

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm...  :) but your opponent can look at your discard pile.

OK that's news to me... I just assumed that as you can see every card as your opponent is discarding it, you should know what's in there anyway... Thanks for correcting me.

There was a reason for it... maybe some of the veteran players will remember it

So help me out on my conclusion...that you can choose no to find another card and thus just take back whatever you need. More importantly though.....how about those games ;D

But you see, in important games were cheating might actually win you something (whilst losing self respect and dignity), the judge can always check your opponents deck if you so desireth.

That's the question, whether it is cheating or making use of the rules to the fullest.

It would be cheating if you had 2 events with different card titles in there, and "chose" not to pull both out...

If you can perform non-optional actions on a card to the fullest, then you must do so. The clarification is only to alow you to play the card even if you DON'T have a second card in there (which wouldn't be possible, say, by MtG's rules). If you CAN find 2 cards, then you MUST find 2 cards.
As for not looking through your opponent's iscard piles, it's actually fairly simple: it's to reward the better player, the one who pays most attention, plans around, etc. So now, it's up to me to remember if, for example, between playing and discarding, your deck does not have a single Hate in it anymore so I can exhaust my companions, I can't just pick up your discard pile and check.

seems pointless to not be allowed to look at the opponents discard pile because aren't you allowed to have a pen and paper and note each card as it goes in.
