...my first rare was Too Much Attention. I started playing when Mines of Moria came out. I first bought a Gandalf starter deck. My rares were: Final Cry, Beneath the Mountains, and Tower Assassin. I also bought one pack of Fellowship and got an Uruk Spy. Either way, if my first rare was some dumbass like Ottar, Man of Laketown (really good card--I just wouldn't have known it then...) I probably would have given up. Incidentally, my brother got a Gimli starter deck and got Jarnsmid, Merchant from Dale, Too Much Attention, and Flaming Brand. My first foil? The Bridge of Khazad-Dum*. -wtk

For the record, my first Two Towers card was Men of Harad. And I thought, "I wonder how this would at all be effective!" Then I learned what site control was and how it worked and realized, "Wow, this card is possibly the least effective printed card ever." -wtk

In Battle of Helms Deep and Ents of Fangorn, the starter decks had Fixed "AI" rares. They were included so that people who bought the starter decks would have rares that would work with the deck. 5R123- 5R128 and 6R123- 6R128. For instance, if you got the Aragorn, King In Exile deck, you might get a Cave Troll of Moria, Scourge of the Black Pit. But you wouldn't be able to spot a Orc, so that rare was worthless to your deck. Either way, Decipher wised up after poor sales of Starter decks. -wtk

I really don't rememeber what was my first rare card ever, but I do recall the first rare foil I pulled from a pack: The Witch-king, Lord of Angmar and I still have it Started playing & collecting right at the beginning, seems so long ago though...

Lurtz, Servant of Isengard was the first card that I traded for. Actually three. I had gotten one in a pack and traded Orc Bowmen and Secret Sentinels for 3 Lurtz, SoI and a Gimli, Son of Gloin. One of my worst trades ever (among my first) was Hate for Orthanc Assassin, Boromir, Lord of Gondor, and Gimli's Helm. It was actually just for Orthanc Assassin and Boromir, but the guy said, "Are you sure man? I mean I have Gimli's Helm from your wanted list too because I don't want to rip you off." It seems I traded power rares regularly back then. Don't ask about what happened to every copy of Power According to His Stature I ever owned... -wtk

well, let's see, i'm still here even though there is no organized play for the game, nor are there any players in my area. yeah, i'm pretty much gonna say that if i haven't quit lotr by now, i never will. :sigh: and to keep this post on topic, my first rare was orc bane, which i immediately thought was way better than it actually was. i have no idea what my first foil was.

My first booster gave me Band of the Eye (not a bad rare at all, at the time), and my first starter deck produced Arwen, DoE, Black Steed, and some other rare I can't remember now. I started the game on the right foot, since soon after I pulled Aragorn, KiE foil.

That was a sweet surprise when I got those. I still use the Ranger of the North in a deck. I'd prefer getting the "real" foil, but until then, this will work just fine in my foil decks. -wtk
