Does anyone remember..
« on: February 02, 2010, 06:36:38 AM »
I remember in the the days of tt-block that Decipher had a contest about how strong Smeagol, slinker could become. I remember it was around 1000, but can't remember how this trick was done. Anybody does?

I think it was something with TSC and Sorry about everything and all these events like "when a hobbit heals, remove a burden and thing like that so just push him, heal, remove burdens, heal, remove burdens and Sam, SoH I think.

It's sure with scs, but not with the other cards you mentioned, because that are maneuver events and such. If I remember correctly it had something to do with Merry and elven cards.

Anything that removes burdens during the skirmish phase is what you are looking for.

Then still I can't come to 1000... I can get to about 250, but that's it. And then also only cards from the first 2 blocks... So any help appreciated!

Skirmish healing would be nice for repeated flashes of Sting, Baggins Heirloom.

Off the top of my head:

Frodo, Tired Traveler with The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles
Sting, Baggins Heirloom
There and Back Again
Frodo's Cloak
Phial of Galadriel (which means an [Elven] character in play...presumably Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad)

Merry, Friend to Sam
Hobbit Sword
Escape

Another four vitality Hobbit companion (Pippin or Sam should do the trick nicely!)

Smeagol, Slinker with four copies of Poor Wretch and Stone Trolls (strength 7/conditional strength 10)

Three [Rohan] characters and four copies of An Honorable Charge

Four copies of The Shire Countryside

Four copies of Sorry About Everything, Stout and Sturdy, Noble Intentions*, Dagger Strike*, Extraordinary Resilience.

One copy of Swiftly and Softly.

Use Swiftly and Softly to keep Merry alive. Everything beyond that is pumping Merry up to ungodly strengths, handing that over to Smeagol, healing Merry, rinse, and repeat. Add burdens and remove them and exert Frodo and heal Frodo and Merry.

On record, between Merry and a Sword, There and Back Again, four An Honorable Charge, four Dagger Strike*, and four Noble Intentions* you are looking at a strength 39 Merry. So strength 78 with four exertions (thanks to Escape) and then heal him up with four A Shire Countryside.

Then you have your burdens/exertions with Sting...you should be fine.

Burden for Smeagol, Sorry About Everything with your extra Hobbit (Pippin or Sam), four The Shire Countryside heals Merry four times. So now you are up to strength 87. Repeat four times for strength 407.

Add 11 burdens with Frodo for an additional strength 22. Up to 429.

Exert Frodo 5 times for an additional strength 10. Up to 439.

Discard Frodo's Cloak. Heal Frodo five times (with A Shire Countryside). Use Extraordinary Resilience on one of those burdens to heal Merry, Friend to Sam four times. 9 burdens and is completely healed.

Use Merry, Friend to Sam. Smeagol is strength 517.

Exert Frodo five times. Sting makes Smeagol strength 527. Add two burdens for strength 531.

Use Stout and Sturdy. Use Extraordinary Resilience to remove a burden instead and heal Merry four times. Use Merry to pump Smeagol up to 609. Repeat twice. Smeagol is strength 765.

Add three burdens. Smeagol is strength 771.

Sorry for quadruple posting. 771 is as strong as I could get him, but I'm sure you could pump Merry up even more and make Smeagol even more ridiculously strong. I guess four Hobbit Stealth and four Hobbit Intuition would have been an additional strength 20 for Merry, which in the long run would mean an additional 180 strength. So now you are looking at 951 for Smeagol. That's close enough to your 1000, right?

Hey, c-work's got it!

By the way, Smeagollum, I'd better get a :gp: for all that goddamned math!

Add Gandalf and four Depart Silently for an additional strength 108.

But the real question is... what about with only 8 or (let's be generous) 12 cards in hand?

4 The Shire Countryside
4 Songs of the Blessed Realm
4 Voice of Nimrodel

I think thats how they did it.

That's sounds familiar! Together with a Boromir, sod and a The Saga of Elendil on him to pump up Merry

4 The Shire Countryside
4 Songs of the Blessed Realm
4 Voice of Nimrodel
Merry
Boromir, sod
Hobbitsword
Sting, bh
The Saga of Elendil
An Elf (Propably 2: galadriel, Elrond, arwen or Legolas (only first 5 sets)!
There and Back Again
Frodo's Cloak
Phial of Galadriel
4 Poor Wretch
Escape
4 Extraordinary Resilience

I think this must be it. Maybe also 4x Stout and Sturdy.

Please don't forget you only have 8 cards in hand so you can't do all the tricks and maneuver events to remove a burden won't help as you want to remove burdens in the skirmish!

Still  :gp: for all of you. I'm not very good in maths so maybe somebody can count it out?!

You're rightKralik about the 8 cards. Propably Elrond (with Vilya) was used so you would have 4 extra cards.
