so, first topic on this forum... cobracards please return!!! okay, to the point, my question: what are, for example, brave and loyal, pippin brave decoy for??

/pippin, brave decoy/  cost 1/ str 3/ vit 4/ res 9/   Skirmish: if pippin is not assigned to a skirmish, spot an unbound companion who has less resistance than pippin to have pippin replace him or her in a skirmish.

i mean, if i can just assign pippin to a skirmish in first instance, why would i assign another guy and then spot him to place pippin instead? it just doesn't make any sense.   it is worse in case of brave and loyal, you have to exert the guy. why?

Well, you could assign a minion to pippin, then before his skirmish starts have him replace another skirmish so that the minion previously skirmishing pippin doesn't get to skirmish.

I wouldn't be so sure about that... since Pippin would still be assigned whether his skirmish had started or not.

you try to get Pippin to huge strength, with like a hobbit sword, and especially Everyone Knows, pack an escape on him an Entdraught so Pippin is like 17 base strength. You start his skirmish, resolve it and then he isn't assigned to a skirmish any longer. Then you start to take over other skirmishes.........

Pippin's skirmish would have to be finished in order for him to assign.

Also, if your opponent used Between Nazgul and Prey for example to assign a huge Witch-King to your key character (like Gandalf in a G for Grand deck!), you can use Pippin to save him.

Ah, those both make sense! I was wondering what else to use him before besides a sacrificial lamb...

I suppose that if you assigned a character to a skirmish and they were unexpectedly about to be overwhelmed by skirmish events, etc, you could have Pippin take the fall.

I hate all cards that say: discard all. Sleep Caradhras, Saruman's Power, etc, etc
