Greetings. First post. I've been enjoying myself reading up on improving my old Moria decks in these forums as I return to the game from a Elf Lords-era hiatus. I can't say that I understand the threat & token metagame yet. Why would Golum want to remove threats? Oh, wrong board. I purchased a new booster box of Hunters this evening, forgotten way up high on a shelf of the local game store. I've read that it's VHTF, so I'd appreciate some advice. In general, I'd like to profit from this good fortune, and this mostly likely means eBay (sorry). Options include: - I could sell the whole thing in a single transaction, which would be no hassle at all.
- I could sell individual sealed booster packs.
- As for sets like those recently sold, I wouldn't expect to pull a whole set of anything but commons.
- I could try to sell them all as singles, but this would be time consuming.
- I could keep some of the cards, and sell the rest, with the proceeds easily covering my costs (that's how I used to collect MW: DA).
- I have nobody to trade or play with in the South Puget Sound region of Washington State.
- I could give it away to the first guy who posts a purple smiley. Or three.
Or not. So regarding the option to open it and keep some; how good are the cards? Worth forgoing profit? I can look through the card database well enough, but as mentioned above, I don't really get it anymore. I know that worth a personal judgment, but what would you do? I can state upfront that I have no interest in the newer Shadow cultures: Evil Men, Uruk-Hai, and Orcs. Why did Decipher have to do that? Wait, don't tell me, Wizkids pulled the same tricks. So am I in a minority there? Aside from Ugluk, those aren't in-demand, are they?
One more thing: the box has been dropped in the years since it was new, and a corner is crushed. It's possible that some foil uber-card got munched. I'd be honest on eBay, of course, probably posting a picture of the moderate damage.
Ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.
PS - This isn't meant to be a manipulative eBay advertisement; that would be a cheesy first post, eh!?

Welcome to the boards.
Low-end rares from The Hunters sell between $1 and $2, but there is a huge spike once you are talking about "power rares." The masterworks cards from The Hunters regularly go for between $15-40 USD. So you have a chance to make quite a profit considering the average is about one masterworks card per box. Who knows? You might even get lucky with a second!
It really comes down to how many packs you believe were damaged. If it was one to two packs damaged, then post that and the price won't be too far off of what the full value is. If it is that entire column of packs...well...that sucks.
My honest recommendation is open the packs, get back in the game, start up your collection again, trade, sell, buy, and stick around. Personally, I don't play anything beyond set 10 and I don't collect anymore (outside of trying to get the last few foils for my decks). So trust that I am not recommending you open the box just so I can trade for your cards. I don't want them.
But what is more fun than opening packs? Especially if you haven't done it in a while...

Hunters boosters are very hard to find. You might be suprised how much people would pay for individual sealed boosters.
There are alot of hunters single cards on ebay most of the time and you can generally find any of the rares. Hunters RFs and Masterworks are much harder to find on ebay, they do appear but not as aften.
I recenlty sold twenty RFs and Masterworks on ebay and got close to $400 for them (about $20 each.
I too once found a bunch of boosters at a local store and opened them all straight away. If you really want to make profit I would suggest selling them as individual sealed boosters (I NEVER see these on ebay).

There are a few people in the Portland-Seattle region who do play. Off the top of my head chang, legolas3333 (conditional), sweet_stuff are in that region. But my biggest recommendation would be to join the online sensation of GCCG. Check it out in the Green Dragon Inn section. Unrelated: Good job to sharkey for actually reading all of our friend's stipulations. I thought someone would have posted a purple smiley face by now. Not -worthy, but the sentiment is there. That probably is the way to make the most $$$, but I myself never buy individual packs. Maybe I am cynical, but I assume the person selling the packs opened packs until he got a MW foil then sold the rest! LOL. |

No decisions yet, but I did find more forgotten product at the local game store: 6 each ROS and T&D boosters at the bottom of a box of mixed boosters, under a gaming table, lost since a location move. And did I mention half-price? It pays to rummage. After similar deliberations, the pull was good, proportionally: HtttoG, an RF Faramir BoQ, and a Legends Masterworks Beorning Axe (which I kinda wanted) ... This makes me want to open the rest. So tell me that the box is hopelessly flawed, and I'll dive in. |

Me again. This again. I chose to resurrect my old thread as I finally have an answer: Any news? How are you going to sell them? I've been very tempted lately to open these cards so that I couldn't sell them, but I'm now able to let them go. In a not-for-profit sort of way, in fact, quite unlike my original Ferengi-like post. No need to go back to read the lengthy OP, but much has changed since then: Thanks to these fine boards, I now understand Gollum and his threats, and I've made some trades and some decks. I've also found a local gaming buddy, and I have enough cards to share with him to make it fun. What hasn't changed? Ket remains a very helpful 'voice of reason'. As a small thanks to y'all, I will consider international shipping for regular contributors here, despite what the auction details read. PM me. I know who you are, since I bear the Lurker keyword. From what I have seen, individual packs are the most profitable way to sell them, unless you want to gamble on getting a few of the power cards that can go for a lot more online.

Selling sealed product is better in any case. I never understand how people are willing to shell out much more for sealed boosters and boxes on average compared to what you get when you buy singles. I always thought it would be the other way round...if only people would play the game instead of only collecting the cards...

P.S.: I would not know what to do with a sealed box, either! I mean, I don't need any more hunters block cards and it seems silly to me to sit on sealed product and not use it. Selling it is the way to go.
