what do people think about printing LOTR cards out and playing with them? Not in tourney's of course, but for casual play?

I've never been a fan of proxies. It ruins all the hard work that other players go through to make real decks.
Why not play on GCCG, where you have access to every card, and can play online against other players for free?

For casual play, there's nothing wrong with that. Some people in my area have used proxies (especially from Hunter's Block), and no one has ever complained about it. |

I've used them, in star wars, but not lotr. if your gaming group is fine with it, why not? however, Ket has a point. If you're going to use proxies, why not play the gccg. it is an awesome set up, it's 100% free, and you have unlimited access to every card in the game. Oh, did I mention it is free. That isn't even the best part. The best part is that it's free!

IMO proxies are fine for casual play and i would even go as far as saying they are fine for tournament play provided all players agree. without an agreement, your opponents won't be happy to play against you.
GCCG is great, but it lacks human contact and is lacking as a very social experience (it depends what you want out of playing cards). Given the choice i prefer to play with real cards, but i do still like GCCG as I can play a game anytime provided someone is online. I recommend giving it a look.

haha, like that awesome greenleaf we printed out when we started... Heck yes, but you printed those out before I started playing. However, I am going to proxy the triumph and menace set so I can test them out and see how they work. Chang, you should help me out with that. |

I tried getting into gccg, but I felt like everyone is miles ahead of me--how long does it take before you can create a deck using all the cards you want?

I have been thinking about my last comment based on recent posts on other forums. If we all focus on our local groups and this leads to a revival of strong local playing groups it becomes more and more feasible to reintroduce national and world tournaments (due to potential demand). Based on this it is probably not best practice to proxy cards for tournaments. If local groups stray too far from established rules and practices it may be harder to reign them in if the community ever cooridinates larger scale tournament support. |

I used proxies in my deck at the tourny, but only because I played multiple decks that used the same cards. Like SftF, a card I have 4 times, but I used it in 2 decks... |

The only way i would see proxies becoming "legal" would be if demand exceeded supply, by a lot. That would take a lot of players

I remeber one time I laughed my socks off about a proxie. We decided to make a format with drawn fellowship races. Gil -Estel drew Smeagol...and created a solo smeagol deck... 2nd card he played was "Smeagol sword"  not an actual proxie but it was clearly self made... still cant stop lauging (and it`s been 8 years or so) |

I personally do not have a problem with printing out cards to use in a casual format. Some cards and sets are very hard to come by. When a player without many cards is going up against someone like myself with a huge collection (40,000+ cards) it can help them stay competitive. Then again, I end up giving away cards to people that are really getting into the game, and do not have a good size collection...  |
