I just came across this today:

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a cooperative card game that puts 1-2 players (or up to four with two Core Sets!) in control of the most powerful characters and artifacts of Middle-earth. Players will select heroes, gather allies, acquire artifacts, and coordinate their efforts to face Middle-earth's most dangerous fiends. By cooperating to overcome the obstacles drawn from the encounter deck, you will complete the quest before you and claim victory!

The Core Set includes 216 cards that can be used to assemble a wide variety of decks right out of the box. Included are four perilous scenarios that, along with countless combinations of settings and enemies, offer near-limitless replayability. Additionally, players can build a party from a set of 16 hero cards, and focus their decks on any combination of four distinct spheres of influence: Leadership, Lore, Spirit, and Tactics. Each sphere offer unique benefits to the party, so choose wisely!

I thought that Decipher were the only one to have the rights to make a card game based on LOTR.

They lost the license when they stopped making the game.

What on middle-earth is this apostasy?  Huh, this must be how the pope felt when luther left the catholic church in order to form his own.  i feel so violated and old-fashioned

I think FFG will do a good job with this.  At least on the surface this game doesn't look to lend itself to tournament play, but I'd be happy with a 1 player LCG adventure game that I could play be myself or with a friend or two, us against the game.  Also with new content coming out each month, it will keep the game fresh.

I just started playing the Game of Thrones and Warhammer Invasion LCGs and am in the process of getting caught up on all of the chapter packs and expansions I missed.  I better hurry up and get caught up by fall though before the LOTR LCG hits shelves.

The only estimate at the moment is Fall 2010. So I guess the initial core set will be released around October or November.

Gotta love it. That is just some wicked-#$&*@! card design and illustrations. I think I'll just watch it, let it develop for a few years, then make a few good decks and play. Not gonna change Lotr tcg for it anyways.

It'd be nice to cooperate for once instead of trying to completely destroy the other person who so kindly offered up their time to play a game with you. I'm really interested in this LCG.

I am familiar with the terms CCG, TCG, and GCCG, but what is the idea behind an LCG.  What do they mean a living card game?  aren't all new card games living?  Isn't that what we mean by a dead game? Meaning the game is no longer played?

No blind purchases.

From FFG:

A Living Card Game™ (LCG™) breaks away from the traditional Collectible Card Game (CCG) model by offering a fixed card distribution method. It offers the same dynamic customizable, expanding, and constantly evolving game play that makes CCG's fun, but without the blind buy purchase model that can burn out players. The end result is an innovative mix that gives you the best of both worlds!

I see, thank you.  Very helpful.  The art work the cards offer is amazing by the way
