I was talking to MuadDib about how I thought Theoden, Leader of Spears was a badass looking foil so I decided to scan it and share the glory.

I had an issue with scanning them too, so I just took a few pics seemed to capture the foil a bit better. I think that the angle the light hits the image in the scanner is to front on. It needs a bit of an angle to capture them.

Elf Song, just like this one has a 3-D kinda feel to it. ]

It's okay with me. Although I am not fond of the Troll of Cirith Gorgor foil.

Most of the

Wraith foils look great (I have quite a number of them and my brother has a fellowship of them that is mostly foiled). I will add a few more as well when I am bored or otherwise feel like it.

For me, a great foil is one with a lot of detail. Elf-Song looks nice, but since it is just the entire background foiled, I am not as fond of that as something with a "light-effect" foil, like Edoras Hall.

I love the Wraith Foils to, I think another one I have that I like is Shagrat he is kinda crazy looking. I have a few other site cards I took a pic of to.

Wow! I often ask myself "why do people always make such a Dramaabout foils, the effect still stays the same?", but whenever I see a card foiled I've never seen before, I'm like: "Hmm, very impressive, no I know why you guys like foils so much."

All those foils above are very nice. Really all of them.

I love that one myself, I have another pic of it where it looks kinda blue. Its crazy how just the slightest angle can bring out a entirely different color. I get torn between should I click now, now lol.

I think your scanner has the same issue as mine...you really can't get the gleam. I'm going to take some pictures with a digital camera so that I can manipulate the light and make the foil really shine.

Thanks for posting those though, MuadDib. I haven't seen a foil Ruling Ring in quite some time.

Yep. Legolis' scanner is awesome!

Another wierd thing, when I sign out and try to view the foils rings I posted, they're gone... Yet yours and Legolis' are still visable while viewing as a guest..

Actually I'm using a camera lol, Scanners are on a 90 degree angle and don't catch the foils very well. I'm just using a Cannon powershot digital camera a indirect light source to eliminate glare and getting at a slight angle. I would advise turning off any flash on the camera.

I bet it is a good one, I would love to see it in the right light. I have an Eomer somewhere that is pretty cool, might have to look for that one tomorrow sometime. I probably have around 200 foils now, I would love to get them all but that will take an eternity lol.

I would love to, but I have been so broke lately, I had to actually close my bank account before the collectors start trying to get some cash that isn't there and overdraft me lol. If I do come up with some cash you can put a collection together and I can try to work out something with my mom and get her to send some cash to you through paypal. If not through paypal maybe work something else out. I would probably buy them into $20 dollar bunches as soon as I can get a few extra bucks.

Not Listening is the best example of foiled irises as far as I can tell. Border Defenses has all of the arrows foiled; I thought that was pretty cool (sorry for the bad picture).

At first I was using an HP Photosmart C4780 scanner, but I was not happy with the quality of the scans (I think it was over-compensating for the reflections of the foil).

I used a Nikon Coolpix (like Ashton Kutcher!) to take the other photos, then resized them and decreased the quality a little so they would fit on the message board.

As someone who's more interested in foil pictures than collecting foils themselves, I'm liking this thread.

Apologies for the poor image quality on some of these:

Don't Look at Them (AI) has a neat effect with the water. Also liking the ambiance in The Shire Countryside.

Arwen, Elven Rider has nice hair.

Cantea LoDG has one of my favorite Nazgul pics... now with a flaming sword and gauntlet.

And from STCCG... there are totally more than four lights.

Arwen, Elven Rider is an awesome picture. I always liked that one best (to me, it is the only one where Liv Tyler looks particularly attractive).

The other two up top look great as well...you're going to have to find a digital camera!

Yeah, that pig is intense. He just pops off the card at you.
I love foils like that, where I probably never even noticed there was a pig in the picture before it was foiled.

I don't actually think that Abandoning Reason for Madness is a great foil. I just like that they tried to foil individual strands of hair. It makes me think of Scar from The Lion King.

I couldn't get a great picture of Always Helps where both his eyes and his teeth were shiny...but I sure tried. I think this picture just made his teeth look even dirtier.

Thanks! It does look pretty awesome, the pic doesn't really give it justice. When I was opening the pack I saw it and didn't realize it was a foil at first. I was like yeah!!!, I have a new mint 1r1. Then I went to set it down and caught the reflection. I dropped the card and felt the sweat immediately start to bead upon my brow. Then I noticed my heart had doubled its beat and I started to feel faint. I sat back in my chair and took a deep breath, It was then that I realized I wouldn't have to trade my truck for a copy after all!

lol, every time me and my dad watch fellowship of the ring together. (and i literally mean EVERY time) at that part of the movie, my dad turns to me and says: "i JUST realized for the first time that legolas is walking on TOP of the snow."

I agree. Photographing them would be the way to go. Now I have to think about a setup that yields consistently spectacular results...angle, backdrop, camera settings etc. Could be a relatively worthwhile project...I will be mulling it over...
