I received a reply on my last question, but I posted in the wrong section.  Sorry about that.

I had the pleasure of playing two Battle of Helms Deep starter decks with my 10 year old daughter this morning.  Had a great time, but I ran into several areas that I was unsure about.  Thank you for the response.  It helped clarify things.

I am getting ready to play another game with two Return of the King starting.  Looking over the cards there are a few mechanics I don't understand.

1.Threats.  Are these counted separately from wounds, exertions, and burdens.  I understand that wounds and exertions are similar and that burdens are tracked separately.  Are threats the same?  Are they tracked to the side (kind of like twilight)?  Is there an upper limit to threats that ends the game (similar to burdens at 10)?  Each side has it's own threats that accumulate right?  They aren't collective like twilight are they?

2.Fortifications.  I am not sure I understand the mechanics of these, 1st level, 2nd level, etc.).  Can someone explain this?

Thanks

Welcome!

1)  Threats.   Yes, they are separate for each player and are tracked separately from wounds or burdens.  Each player keeps track of how many threats they have by putting tokens on their own dead pile.  If you have as many threats as you have companions on the table, no more threats can be added at that point in time.  The game doesn't end when you reach a certain number of threats.  When your companion or ally is killed all the treats are removed and must be placed on your companions as wounds. So it's basically a penalty if one of your characters die.

2) Fortifications.  They are just conditions that represent Gondor's buildings and other structures that help them defend against enemies.  Certain cards make use of fortifications (e.g. spot a fortification to do something cool).  They tend to work well in decks that have Gondor "knights" in them.  Take a look.

Thank you for the reply.  I understand the threats now.  I also figured out that the fortifications add numbers to the minions site numbers, thus making them roaming.  The deck provides bonus for skirmishing roaming minions.  I get it.

Thank you again.
