I got back into Magic with the release of 2012. I bought a M12 box and scored a Foil Jace and Mind Unbound, and Garruk, Chandra and Gideon.

That's what I call running good. I'd try to cash in that foil Jace now. You might regret it, but soon after pre-releases flagship foils are pretty hot, and I'm not sure he'll be that good, I think it's more of a thing like people wanting it to be good and playing it in crappy builds.

I attended Friday Night Magic last week and managed to finish 2nd overall, which was exciting as it was my first ever Magic draft. I used a deck with Garruk (pulled him in my 2nd pack), Griffins, and some Acidic Slime. I got owned by a Alluring Sirens/Sengir Vampire combo.

Yeah, Alluring Siren is a beating when you draft it properly. UG counterspells, with Spiders and Alluring Siren, used to be a Royal Pain in M11, not sure it has changed by much on M12. Also, downgrading Sengir Vampire and Serra Angel, and making Dragons at uncommon, really adds up to stuff like this happening, unfortunately, creatures get too degenerate really fast.
