Anybody looked up the spoilers yet? I'm psyched- the flavour is neat, and the mechanics look like a lot of fun.

Here's a spoiler thread:

I echo your thoughts GT, been following the spoilers daily and they looked simply brilliant. Fun, thematic and flavourful. However if you look at the actual gameplay, they are mostly very poor cards. Theres about 4 cards ive seen that are any good so far besides the 2 pwalkers.

Yes, I'm disappointed from a spike's point of view as well, but Limited will be very fun, and the novel about the block will be awesome, I wish I could get my hands on it! Once the set is fully spoilered, I plan to write an analysis on the thing as a whole, as I used to do back on CC, just to keep things fresh. Hopefully, I can hit some gems early enough. Smiley

Actually, there was an excellent 2/2 WW human in there. Besides, underpowered but fun cards are much preferred to power creep. Remember Jace the Mind Sculptor?

O i agree GT you can go much more wrong with OP cards than UP but this set seems the opposite, really really weak.

Still... Should be fun either way Cheesy

Think tempered steel will still own standard.

Yeah, I wish I had enough money to throw together that white weenie Steel Overseer deck. Mox Opal... Jeez, thats $20 right there.

Except that Steel overseer and the ornithopter rotate out as well with zendikar block. So I dont think it will really be THAT powerful.

Well, Overseer is nice, but the M12 crappy lord (Automaton-something?) could actually fill in the role (or something else could come in, of course), and Ornithopter is explosive, and all, but... well, on the end of the day it's still an 0/2, I was never a big fan of it, the way I see it, most decks I like play good cards, and if they come together fine the deck is great - if not, hey, they're still good cards; Tempered Steel plays a bunch of crappy cards that, when together, make the deck great - when they do not come, they're... crappy cards. I'd rather move away from an 0/2 into something slightly better, considering this.
PS: If decks keep playing less and less removal, U/G Infect might be appealing post-rotation...
PPS: If blue zombies are supposed to be Frankenstein monsters, does that mean Lightning Bolt IS coming back, only in Innistrad instead of M12? Shock's flavorful enough, though... Point is, if Lightning Bolt bites it, people will play even less removal, since maindecking Shock as removal is kind of a bummer.

Another amazing mythic.

I'm normally not a huge fan of green, but this looks fun.

FM, why are you calling Adaptive Automaton crappy? Of course he's crappy if you decide to play him as a Tribal Lhurgoyf Lord, but pack him in a deck with a Tribal Lord already, such as Lord of the Unreal, and now he is rolling. Boosts all the other Illusions, and benefits from the Tribal Lords bonus.

And does not provide any good effect aside form Glorious Anthem with a target on his head, unlike the other lords. Nah, I'd rather splash for Anthem (of course, if it's possible) most of the time, for the same cost and being less vulnerable, and not having to go Tribal. If Anthem is not a possibility (which means Standard), and if Tribal really is somehting worth pursuing, I'd still play 4 better spells to shore up weaknesses. Need to kill faster (thus, enter the Lord)? Pack counters or pumps. Need bigger creatures? Figure out by what turn you need them, and simply play them. They can even go the distance for you.
