Title: Suggestions for a deck containing only cards from The Hunters set
Post by: ununtrium on May 20, 2009, 12:23:48 AM
Hi there!
I am currently trying to do build decks for constructed play from The Hunters cards only. I am a collector first, so I would like to combine getting cards for a deck with getting cards to complete a set along the way.

Since I don't have any cards from the War of the Ring block (which I am going to skip altogether for now) and since I like set 15 the most anyway, this seems to be the logical conclusion.

And besides: I don't have the resources to seriously start collecting cards from RoS and T&D, so there you go.

So my question is:

What did the decks looks like, when The Hunters came out and those cards were the only ones available, if you wanted to play a Hunters Block game?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, because I would have an idea, which cards to trade for next.

Many thanks for any input.

Cheers!

P.S.: BTW, which are the cards from sets 11-13 that have the most play-value in general?

The fellowship is focused on Aragorn, Thorongil, Legolas, of the woodland Realm and Gimli, Eager hunter. Combined with Forth the three hunters. Add some Focus, Whatever end and No quicker Path.
Good site for starting is East wall of Rohan

A good shadow would be Hunter Uruk-Hai with some Orcs. Ugly Fellow, Mauhur, relentless Hunter and Filthy rebel is the base of the typically hunter shadow.
A good shadow site would be the brreding pit.

Use Westfold Village in a hunter dedicated deck!

Most play-value cards in my opinion are:
Celeborn, The Wise Asfaloth, Swift Blossom Legolas, otgc Attunement Elrond, WtH, Farewell to Lorien
Banners Blowing, Well-traveled
Argument ready to hand
Erland, DC, Jarnsmid, Barding Emissary, The Flame of Anor, Glamdring, Foe-Hammer, Traveled Leader, Gandalf, LotC, New Authority
Mumak Rider, Elevated Fire, Voice of the desert, Pavise
Ulaire Nelya, TotnR, CotnR, Moving this way, Hatred stirred,
Led Astray, Incited, Horribly Strong, Frenzied Attack,
Bound to its fate, Goblin Hordes, Porter Troll, Isengard Underling, Watchful Orc,
Sword Rack,
Lurtz, minion of the white wizard, invincible Uruk,
Merry, loyal Companion, Pippin, Brave decoy

Just some ideas...

Which of the Set 15 rares should I have multiple copies of? For example, I think one copy of the Ring of Doom should be enough, but maybe it is good to have more than one Gandalf, PG? What do you think?

Yes if you are going to have your deck based on Gandalf, PG then I would recommend at least 3 copies.  It all depends on your strategy, but there are many rares from Hunters worth having multiples of.  Here just a few Shadow cards that you would prob want anywhere from 2-4 copies if you were to use them:  Ugluk, Ugly Fellow; GATS; Mountain Troll; Bill Ferny; Not This Time!; Black Land Chieftain; Gorbag, FR; Ulaire Lemenya, ET;

The list goes on and on.. tis a powerful set.

Many thanks for your input so far. Please contribute your ideas for strategies and decks to my other thread in this forum. It would be great to see more decks and general thoughts on this set and Hunters block in general! Cheers!

I noticed this is and old thread back in 2009. Is anybody still following this thread and care to keep talking about the hunter Decks at all?
