Post by: OneFathom on June 24, 2008, 10:35:41 AM
Any help is appreciated.  I'm thinking about taking this deck to an upcoming tourney.  LMK what you guys think.

FP (32):

The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry (different ring?)

*Legolas, Fearless Marksman (triggers "initiative-loss" cards)
*Pippin, Wearer of Black and Silver (Smeagol, Shadowplay, Unheeded and site 2 protection)
*Aragorn, Strider (strong starting comp. who triggers Hardy Garrison)
*Smeagol, Always Helps (exhaust/Unheeded auto-kill)

Gandalf, Powerful Guide X 4 (triggers A Light In His Mind, Brooding On Tomorrow)
Faramir, Wizard's Pupil (help with threats from Smeagol, Pippin boost, and the second Gondor comp. for Hardy    Garrison, pulled with Prancing Pony)

Sting, Elven Long Knife (threat removal)
Glamdring, Foe-Hammer (burden removal)
Anduril, Sword That Was Broken
Elven Rope (Ferny, Gollum, Grima tech?)

Shadowplay X 4
A Light In His Mind X 2
Hardy Garrison X 2
Brooding On Tomorrow

Unheeded X 4
Still Far Ahead X 4
Terrible and Evil X 2

SH (32):

My only comment after the initial pass-through is that you really need to insert Daddy Twofoot to grab Unheeded back from time to time. And you really don't need Salt From The Shire, so you could just swap Daddy into that spot. And especially with the bouncing Hobbits, I would STRONGLY recommend NfFatRoD, as it can get rid of two threats in one pop...very useful in combination with Smeagol's text.

Ahhh, I know Daddy Two-Figgity is so $, but I'm a stickler for foils.  Combining foils and non-foils I just can't bring myself to do.  This is an all-foil deck so I will definitely add the Nine-Fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom, and toss in Birthday Present.  I agree with Salt From the Shire, too.  It isn't really needed.  Thanks for the input!

Daddy Twofoot is indispensable for this deck, but if you're playing foil only format...Rohirrim Guard?

Kick out Tom Bombadil, SftS, NfFatRoD, Phial of Galadriel, Still Far Ahead and that Legolas and use Fearless Marksman, Thorongil, Madril, Faramir's Aide, Ranger's Cloak and Hardy Garrison instead. Death.

Link fixed

Non foil death is still death

True, but our friend here objects to the use of non-foils in this deck. Otherwise, Daddy Twofoot should be the first card in the deck.

How do you know he wants an all foil deck? =P

Make this a good deck not a foil deck...

I still think this will be a solid deck...

I've added Aragorn, Strider (starting) and Faramir, Wizard's Pupil and two Hardy Garrisons to work with.  Still, an all-foil deck, though understandably some non-foil cards may work a little better.  I'm not too worried.

Make this a good deck not a foil deck...

QFT. But...it is his deck, and he can do what he wants.

There are counterfeiters, if you so wish to have all your cards foiled and still have a good deck. But I didn't say that.

Despite missing "Daddy" this deck worked very well this past weekend in my tournament.  Almost won it, but my shadow couldn't seal the deal in my only loss.  Only Frodo was left, exhausted with like 6 burdens.  Still the FP was my biggest concern and it held its own.

If you are going all foil and can't run Daddy Two-foot, why not run Birthday Present? It is from set 10 (Mount Doom) so it should have a foil version and with you only running 1 shire event that will be the card your opponent picks for you to retrieve . Maybe you should throw in a Don't Look at Them or two. It will help smeagol kill when no unheeded in hand and it will also help trigger youe initiatitve conditions  ;D.

Nappy:

Good call man!  Thanks for the advice.  I actually had Birthday Present in an earlier version of this deck, but then took it out because I didn't plan on using two different Shire events like the card says you need to have.  I don't have Don't Look At Them in this deck because it's a standard deck.  Don't Look At Them has already been rotated out.  In Expanded format, Don't Look At Them would have made the cut easily.
