Basic rules
« on: December 08, 2018, 09:30:49 PM »
Sorry for this question, I just found out that there's a community still alive for the game.
That said, I haven't played in now, I believe 10 years?
I've forgotten many of the rules. Is there an online database of the rules?
Thank you!

Welcome to tLHH and welcome back to the game!

Take a look in the Archives of Minas Tirith (http://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php/board,2.0.html): I would start with the Official Rulebooks thread pinned to the top.  Download a starter rulebook, and it will walk you through a game.

The wiki (http://lotrtcgwiki.com/wiki/start) has articles on rules/keywords for you to search.  This isn't as much a "learn to play guide" as a "I have a question about what this does" layout, but a good resource nonetheless.

Welcome back, IronTick! Are you playing with physical cards?

Hey guys! Didnt want to start a new thread because i have a similar experience. I was a heavy player back in 2002-2003, when the game was recently launched. So I lost track of it after the release of warg-riders (Maybe two towers? I dont remember).

Well, nostalgia hit me hard so here I am, and I was glad to find a Community still active. The thing is:
- how do you guys play online?
- what do I need to know in terms of gameplay, metas, important stuff
- is it possible to play only the FOTR expansion for the sake of simplicity and good memories?

Thanks and cheers!!

We use GEMP. http://www.gempukku.com/gemp-lotr/
You can choose various formats there, including fellowship block which is just sets 1 to 3. Since wargs came out in set 5, you should be familiar or have a general idea of the first block.

As far as the meta, Fellowship Block has a habit of changing in a constant, slow cycle. In general, you'll see twilight choke, archery, or Gandalf-centric Free Peoples (mainly pipeweed and Trust Me As You Once Did) with Uruk-hai and Saruman, KoI, Nazgul, discard, Sauron grind, or Moria Swarm shadow sides. When the choke gets bad Moria, grind, and discard strategies spring to up to punish their slow movement and expand the twilight pool. Archery and Gandalf take them down, so Uruk-hai and Nazgul come back to give those FP trouble, then choke makes a return until shadow sides swing back the other way.

This is a pretty broad simplification since that list isn't exhaustive and several strategies have their own cycle of counters, but that about sums it up. If you're looking for ideas for decks, this forum the best place to look.

Welcome back!
