With this attached to a pumped Chameleon Colossus, so being a 8/8, if he attacks and hits a player with 16 life, does the player first lose half of his life, then take 8 more, therefore dying?

or

does the player take 8, then lose half?

or

does the player just lose half?

Chameleon Colossus will swing. Assuming it swings unimpeded, it'll assign 8 damage to the defending player. IF the damage resolves, THEN he'll have done combat damage to the defending player, and Quietus Spike will trigger. So he'll be knocked down to 8, the to 4. On a related note (I've seen this being asked more than once before during tournament play), if he had 9 life, he'd die, since he'd lose 0.5 life rounded up.
