The Way Into Mordor Cardlist (6/23: Sméagol/Gollum Added)
« on: December 30, 2008, 12:19:02 PM »
As this set is still in progress, there will continue to be sporadic updates as I grind through cultures. So until this set is declared finished, please pardon our dust....

- Uncle Dáin

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Way Into Mordor is the second of my five sets that make up the collection Wars of the Ring, the others being: Lasting Alliances, focused on The Hobbit and other pre-FotR events; The Road Ahead, focused on The Fellowship of the Ring; The End Of All Things, originally my final set, focused on The Return of the King; and Ages of Middle-earth, a Reflections-style set focused on the game LOTR: The Third Age and other events from the time of Frodo's journey that weren't in the forefront of the books or movies, as well as a return to some of the material from Lasting Alliances.

This set, The Way Into Mordor, focuses on events from The Two Towers. It continues several new aspects that were introduced in Lasting Alliances and The Road Ahead:

- A new culture based around Mirkwood (represented by the (G) culture icon for the time being). Much like the [Gollum] culture, (G) has both Free Peoples and Shadow cards. The culture appears very, very little in this set, and what little is here is centered around Legolas.

- A new unbound keyword, riddle, as well as a grand return of all-but-abandoned keywords like tale, weather, and tracker.

- An all-new strategy of capturing and rescuing characters on both the Free Peoples and Shadow side, working much like capturing and liberating sites. PM me if you want more details.

- Dual-character cards, where two characters share the same card. They work together, fight together, and things go wrong, die together.

- Two new signets (remember those?): Elrond and Thorin. Signets have a big impact again in my sets, though resistance is still around as well.

I haven't worked out full cardlists yet, but here are the cultures you can expect to see:

approx. ?? Cards: (currently 325+ cards)

[Ring] The One Ring: 2
[Dunland] Dunland: 41
[Dwarven] Dwarves: 37
[Elven] Elves: 68
[Gandalf] Gandalf: 68
[Gollum] Gollum (Free Peoples): 31
[Gollum] Gollum (Shadow): 16
[Gondor] Gondor: 74
[Isengard] Isengard: ?
(G) Mirkwood (Free Peoples): 2
(G) Mirkwood (Shadow): ?
[Moria] Moria: 8
[Orc] Orc: ?
[Raider] Raiders: ?
[Rohan] Rohan: 66
[Shire] Shire: ?
[Sauron] Sauron: ?
[Wraith] Wraith: 29
(W) Sites: ?

I don't have exact figures on unfinished cultures yet, but as with my past two sets, this set will probably be quite large. Probably end up somewhere around 600 cards; Lasting Alliances and The Road Ahead were both around there. With several cultures to go, we've already got nearly 450, so....

Here's The One Ring, and other spoilers will follow as I complete cultures. This means the order might be a bit jumbled from what you're used to, but that just keeps things interesting, right? Right? :marx:

The One Ring, The Precious [Ring]
Vitality +1
Resistance +1
Each time the Ring-bearer is assigned to a skirmish, add a burden.
Response: If the Ring-bearer is about to take a wound, he or she wears The One Ring until the regroup phase.
While wearing The One Ring, each time the Ring-bearer is about to take a wound, add a burden instead.
"‘Master knows. Yes, precious. Once it takes hold of us, it never lets go.'"

The One Ring, The Ring Of Power [Ring]
Strength +3
Vitality -1
The Ring-bearer is damage +1 and gains hunter 1.
Maneuver: Add a burden or 2 threats to wear The One Ring until the regroup phase.
While wearing The One Ring, each time the Ring-bearer is about to be wounded or overwhelmed, add 2 burdens instead.
"‘...a mighty gift. A weapon that will change our fortunes in this war.'"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This thread is locked, but that doesn't mean it is closed off to comments. If below you see any obviously broken cards, DCs in need of tweaking, and certainly if see any misspellings or grammatical errors, let me know via PM and I'll be happy to go back and fix everything up. Thanks!
