Some Wild cards
« on: November 17, 2009, 05:12:26 AM »
See what I did there? Wild cards? (R)(G)? Get it? :suspect:

Anyway, here are some (R)(G) cards I've been thinking about. Take a look!

Wild Druid (R)(G)
Creature - Viashino Druid C
Haste
(T): Add (R) or (G) to your mana pool.
1/1

Feral Minotaur [3](R)
Creature - Minotaur Berserker U
Haste
If (G) was spent to cast ~, it gets +2/+0 until end of turn.
3/2

Wildspark Elemental (R)(R)(G)
Creature - Elemental R
Haste, trample, shroud
At the beginning of the end step, sacrifice ~.
6/1

Fierce Dryad [2](R)(G)
Creature - Treefolk Elemental R
~ gets +1/+1 for each (R) or (G) in your mana pool.
2/2

Caemlos, Hero in Exile [1](R)(G)
Legendary Creature - Elf Rogue Warrior M
Protection from creatures and from artifacts.
3/2

Haste seems unecessary here.

Feral Minotaur [3](R)
Creature - Minotaur Berserker U
Haste

3/2

Nice.

Wildspark Elemental [1](R)(R)(G)
Creature - Elemental R
Haste, trample, shroud
At the beginning of the end step, sacrifice ~.
6/1

Nice but not that useful, you dont really need shroud on ball lightning style cards expecially for 4.

Fierce Dryad [2](R)(G)
Creature - Treefolk Elemental R
~ gets +1/+1 for each (R) or (G) in your mana pool.
2/2

Hmmm interesting. Like it.

Caemlos, Hero in Exile [1](R)(G)
Legendary Creature - Elf Rogue Warrior M
Protection from creatures and from artifacts.
3/2

Cool but why artifacts?

It's an attempt to make a red druid, and I thought haste would be quite interesting on a mana accelerator.

Well it just makes the damage harder to prevent...

Cool but why artifacts?

Yeah haste is a very red thing, its just weird even on a red/green thing.

Yes but it seems youre paying an extra R mana for the shroud. And to be honest id rather not have it and get the 6 dmg one turn earlier.

Ok fair enough.

I've pushed up the power level of the elemental to be more competitive. And it's probably still balanced at (R)(R)(G).

The pumping ability could be more straightforward, simply paying mana to give it the bonus. Would end up working the same way, but without messing up design. And the first card is... subpar. I'd cut the haste and make it cost a hybrid mana, like a mutant Llanowar Elves. The others are fine.

Ah you're right. I was thinking you could flood your pool, then cast a pump, but then now I remember that combat damage doesn't use the stack any more... It might be relevant to allow something like Spearbreaker Behemoth because you could put some mana in the pool, use 1 of them to make the guy indestructible, then cast other spells, and he'd still be indestructible.

Thanks FM!

Thing is, mana pools are emptied after the main phase. So if you add mana to your mana pool and attack, you can't play a creature, unless it has flash. And if you do, its power will be lowered at the same time, by the same amount. So a simple pump ability would do the same.
