Ultimate Boromir (freeps only)
« on: September 19, 2010, 02:11:32 AM »
I'm starting to post some of my real life Decks now, which are both Poorman's and War of the Ring Block legal. I'll post a link to the Poorman's section to make this Deck available to both formats.

Link to the Poorman's list.

Frodo, Protected by Many
The One Ring, The Ruling Ring*

Free People (32):

1x Aragorn, Guide and Protector (starting)
3x Boromir, Doomed Heir
1x Faramir, Prince of Ithilien
1x Madril, Ranger of Ithilien
4x Ranger of Westernesse
2x Banners Blowing
1x Guarded City
3x Heirs of Gondor
3x Invigorated
4x Gondorian Blade
4x Kingsfoil
2x Bow of Minas Tirith
2x Armor of the Citadel
1x Hobbit Sword

Starting Aragorn isn't needed, but I prefer having a big comp at the beginning who can also choke a bit. The four copies of Ranger of Westernesse are all comps that can be sacrificed to gain time to setup Boromir. Bringing Boromir at strength 20+ is really easy in this Deck, especially cus' you can heal him with Invigorated during skirmish to exert more than twice. Aragorn seems to be a bit pointless, but with Sword and Bow, he's at least 11 strength and he's there to kill annoying little minions with his ability. Once you've got a Banners Blowing in your Discard Pile, you have a nice backup plan if something bad happens.

I suggest adding more copies of Guarded City since you are playing lots of possessions on Boromir. Sword of Boromir makes Boromir damage +1, and The Gaffer, Master Gardener helps protect Frodo. If you want to start Boromir, you could play Strider or Hobbit of Some Intelligence.

danfor has a real good point, starting strider and boromir is an awesome idea.

Except that I forgot to consider that this is also a Poorman's deck. You could still use Master Gardener and extra copies of Guarded City, though--since they're not rare cards. Merry, Loyal Companion is an option for the starting fellowship. Make sure to use plenty of river sites for the Ranger of Westernesse to pathfind, so that your Gondor Men can have damage +1 while equipped with Gondorian Blade. You will need the extra damage if you plan to double move at all.

That's true--my mistake. I was considering Boromir, Doomed Heir when I suggested the river sites. The deck was built around him after all.

Which is a very valid point!

I don't want to start Boromir as I'm gonna heal him anyway with the extra copies for his exertions, they come in pretty handy.
