Realms of Middle-earth Discussion Thread
« on: August 25, 2008, 01:15:11 PM »
Okay, for those who have not yet noticed, I have spent much of the afternoon bringing over every RP section from the CC archives so we don't have to keep switching back and forth between the two. Realms of the North is now posted here, and it's fully up to date with all material from the first site to CC's untimely demise.

Here is the list of participants as I see them:

Dáin Ironfoot:
Rorin, Dwarf of the Iron Hills
Ryle, Man of Dale
Curubethion, Ranger of the North (it would be nice if CG wants this character back)

Elf Lvr:
Silvarin, Elf of Mirkwood

AgentDrake:
Echtheow, Man of Rohan

sickofpalantirs:
Tuilin, Elf of Mirkwood

NBarden:
Duinihir, Ranger of the North

We'd kind of limp along the characters of Dirthon the ranger (Anonymous Prodigy), Legoles the Elf (legoles3333), and Durail the ranger/adventurer (ingold55), since their creators have disappeared. I know EL and SoP have each volunteered to write for Durail in the past, Legoles will probably leave the party soon for simplicity's sake (but anyone can use him until then), and Dirthon will stick around for now and I'll write for him, but anyone other current participants who want to jump in on him are welcome to so!

If you are NOT a former participant in this RPG and wish to join, now would be a good time. The party is currently pretty early in its journey, feasting and resting at Edoras after the Battle of Helm's Deep before we trek on to Mirkwood, where trouble seems to be brewing. It would be perfectly concievable to pick up another party member or two now, and make much LESS sense once we're in Mirkwood itself. So if you're interested, reply here or PM me and we'll figure out how to get you involved.

Again, if you need to catch up on the storyline to this point, you can find it here.

Once the regulars let me know they're caught up and ready to roll, we'll move on. In the meantime, I still need to make a DC at this site for all three of the characters I'm responsible for :-[, so until I get to that the rest of you are welcome to post more RP stuff and get back into the swing of things. ;D

My internet is still off, so I may be a bit of a delay until it's going.
Hopefully no more than a couple more days, but I dunno. :(

Looking forward to this, though.

Continue with the last instructions of Site 3...which is basically to mill about and chat with your fellow heroes, and create one DC (both of which you've already done). About the only ones that HAVEN'T done that yet are MY characters. #-o I'll be getting on that tomorrow.

Yeah, sorry. :-S Just been really ummotivated the last few days. Been busy with lots and lots of house and baby stuff in the evenings and swamped at work. I HAVE had time to work on DCs and the RPG stuff, but I've just felt really "meh" about it. I think I need a vacation or something. Too bad there aren't any on the horizon. #-o

I'll get to it soon, I promise. Just gotta get my wits back about me.
Best regards,
Dáin

Hey, real life takes precedence. After all, if you kill yourself in RL, who would we get to play Rorin, Ryle, and Cerubethion, eh?

Besides. Lack of activity here reduces my motivation for procrastinating on my homework.... :P

Okay, FINALLY got the DCs moved over here to a RoME DC list. If you've forgotten what sort of stats, gear, and events your characters have, mosey on over there and catch up.

I know what I want to do when we finally move to the next site, but I've been having trouble getting sections done for my characters before we do so. I hope to finish it over this weekend...if not, then by Monday. That's my goal, at least.

Oh, and if anyone else is interested in joining, now would be a great time. Just reply here or send me a PM if you're interested. :)

Working feverishly on sections for Rorin, Ryle, and Curubethion so we can move on. It should neatly bring everyone back up to speed and make clear our next course of action, as well as catching my characters up and creating their DCs. Took me a while to get back into character--especially for all three--but now the words are rolling off the pen. Er, I mean keyboard. :P

I swear on my firstborn child it will be up in the next 24 hours, and hopefully significantly less than that.

I'm sure that would be fine. You'd need a few DC's to start out with.

Thoughts, Dain?

Actually, they were just renewed by some ghost-like dude with a beard.

Um...doesn't sound Rohan-ish to me. Sounds more like...an overly eloquent Brit who's overdone eloquence.

Nope. That's Rohirric. The Rohirrim are a quintessential Northern European civilization, based mostly on the Anglo-Saxons, with elements of the Norse.

That's all AS stuff there. AKA, out-and-out Rohirrim philosophy. Minus the references to Jesus, because those are sorta.... well.... incongruous with Middle Earth. Try reading some of the Rohirrim poetry in LotR just independently, and take a look at some of the themes there. In fact, the whole "Where now is the horse and the rider" is straight out of one of the poems that I used. As in, Tolkien translated part of it, and stuffed his translation into LotR.

Erm... Sorry. Just about went off on a complete tangent of interest to no-one but me. :P

I thought it fit perfectly, myself.

It's fun being back into this, ain't it? :) I should have a small, new section up later tonight or sometime tomorrow. I'll get to the bigger section, transitioning us to the next site, once EL has gotten his piece in (if he wants to).

I know. I hate how I've negelected this. :'(

I wanted to kick it off again at Halloween, but didn't have the time.

Then I wanted to do Thanksgiving, but little Elaina needed lots of attention then, so the time again eluded me.

My new goal is by Christmas, and I think I can meet that easily enough. Elaina is not as high maintenance now, work is traditionally slower this month than any other time during the year, and I also really, REALLY don't want this to just die. I know it's on life support, but I'm trying to bring in good doctors and...uh...yeah, I guess I took that illustration too far.

But I have NOT forgotten all about this. Just badly, embarrasingly neglected it. My sincerest apologies. :-|

Ah, ever my heart rises as we draw near the mountains. I mean, as we get Realms going again.

Hope I didn't throw everyone for TOO much of a loop with the Ents/Elves thing. Just seemed too good an opportunity to pass up as I studied the lands we'd be traveling and the timing of Tolkien's events.
Best regards,
Dáin

ok...well dain, we need to know what minions use archery abilities, and how we'll assign it.  I can take one in the archery phase, and using my event can probably kill another.

With Silvarin already exerting one of the guys with bows, you can probably assume the others will use their archery ability (and thus exert to add 1 to the archery total each), if able. Recogizing their guys are likely to be slaughtered in skirmish, a smart Shadow player would probably take the guaranteed wounds from archery instead.

Beyond that, just think like the Shadow player. How would YOU try to get your licks in on the companions?

Dáin

I'll go ahead and take out both remaining minions, if someone will volunteer to take one of the archery wounds.
Forget it. I'm not arguing with the computer anymore to try to get the sig I want....

I could go back and assign an archery wound to Ryle easily enough. He's got tons of vitality. Unless we have another volunteer, I'll do just that.

Drake, do I understand now that Ectheow is exhausted (exertion + archery wound)? If so, you want to use Wulfsvín's response ability to heal him?

Well done on that skirmish, by the way. I didn't think the math added up until I carefully reviewed Ectheow's gear and saw that the follower and shield did the trick. Nicely done! =D>

Dáin

Actually, I've got 2 vitality left (+1 from the harp). Am I considered to have anything in hand to discard and heal? If so, I'll go ahead and take my axe back to heal, and keep it in hand to use at the next site.

I think one card, at least, can be assumed. ;)

So that leaves you with 3 vitality? I'll update the thread to reflect that.

Nah, not lame. Just short. :P

Who shall we heal? Ectheow, Rorin, and Ryle are all wounded. I'd vote Rorin, personally, since he has the weakest stats of the three. If not him, then probably Ectheow. Ryle has a ridiculous amount of vitality, even with the wound.

I'll try and have the next section up today. Thanks, AP!

Yeah, I'd say heal Rorin, personally. I'm sure I can always come up with some kinda DC to heal Ectheow during a skirmish, if I have to.

I made the journal a tale in the DC list. :P

I'm waiting on some...behind the scenes stuff before I move us to Site 5. ;) Tomorrow is a busy day for me (evening too), but my wife is FINALLY getting her computer back from the repair shop soon (I've mostly been surrendering to letting her use mine lately), so I'm hoping to get the Rorin/Ryle stuff up for this site soon. If the other things are in place by then, I'll go ahead and lump it together with the Site 5 intro. If not, I'll do them seperately. I hope to have ALL of that done by the end of the weekend, but we shall see.

Hope everyone's still having fun with this, even if it is a little jerky right now. I promise, the pace is about to pick up in a BIG way. :uh-huh:

Dáin

Doesn't really matter. I can see it working perfectly fine either way.
I mean, if you want to weaken my poor little Rohirrim [insert Bambi eyes] then it doesn't matter.

Actually, it really doesn't matter at all. If you don't want it a tale, whatever. That was just an attempt to be comically selfish. :P

Well...its fine I guess. I just never liked making tales. Isn't my style of dc-ing. And IMO, a personal journal isn't really a tale. I was gonna develop the journal away from a chronology and more towards a personal journal, cuz if ya guys recall from the start of the story, Duinihir's got some interesting stuff going on.

Right now I'm just trying to keep up. I'll develop it when I have more time available.

How do I enter one of my characters into the realms of middle-earth?

What know we of this despondent thing
No sign no sound no tranquil ring
We try to tell its quantity
yet fail to see the point
Only one can know of it

We have not power in Use
To hold this creature bay
But only wait for it to change
Inside the soul of it we lay

Wowww.  =P~
Pretty sweet Dain, and all those who contributed, I personally liked the part that NBarden wrote about Durihim, or whatever his name was.

Has anyone ever thought about making this into a novel or something, I'm sure it would be an exceptional read for everyone. And In the back of each book you published you could put the next row of Lotr Cards that were published from each book, My company would of course take care of printing the cards. Or you guys could publish it as something other than Lotr, and just tweek a few paragraphs. Then I could make a completely different card game based off of it.

Did I fall asleep...~Yawn~... sorry about that, did I say anything while I was asleep?
