"rainbow" choke / Discard uruk fellas
« on: October 28, 2013, 06:52:11 PM »
fellowship deck

Ring-bearer: Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer
Ring: The One Ring, Isildur's Bane

Adventure deck:
The Prancing Pony
Midgewater Moors
Council Courtyard
Hollin
The Bridge of Khazad-dum
Caras Galadhon
Anduin Wilderland
Anduin Banks
Slopes of Amon Hen

Free Peoples Draw Deck:
1x Gimli, Dwarf of the Mountain-race
3x Aragorn, Heir to the White City
1x Sam, Faithful Companion
1x Dwarven Bracers
1x Gimli's Battle Axe
1x Hand Axe
1x Aragorn's Bow
1x Armor
3x Athelas
1x Flaming Brand
1x Ranger's Sword
2x Bill the Pony
1x Frying Pan
1x Hobbit Sword
1x Mithril-coat
2x Delving
3x Hobbit Intuition
3x Hobbit Stealth
1x Endurance of Dwarves
1x Greatest Kingdom of My People
1x No Stranger to the Shadows
1x The Saga of Elendil
4x A Promise
2x A Talent for Not Being Seen
1x O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!

Shadow Draw Deck:
2x Lurtz, Servant of Isengard
3x Saruman, Keeper of Isengard
4x Uruk Captain
4x Uruk Lieutenant
4x Uruk Rager
4x Uruk Soldier
2x Lurtz's Sword
4x Uruk-hai Sword
4x Saruman's Power
4x Savagery to Match Their Numbers
2x No Business of Ours
2x Saruman's Ambition

It´s not super effective, i think well played Moria is dangerous to it. But big buys like Nazguls with "normal" draw are nicely choked. Dont know how it is good or bad vs Mordor trackers.

Shadow....can surprise oponent....discarting can be quite annoying...especialy with multiple ragers replayed by Captains...and Sometimes Lurz with his sword is not weak party boy. It is not focused too much to kill but it can kill ....

If you start Sam, you can go down to 1 HTTWC, since you can bid pretty high. Use the slots for important stuff like Sting, There and Back Again, Bounder, Thrarin, Filibert, Boromir SoD etc.

Your shadow should at least play 1 Abandoning Reason for Madness to cycle. If your opponent chokes you, too, you die first. 4x Sarumans Power and 2x Ambition? Should be the other way around. Further discard is not something you want to play with choke. It makes your opponent cycle, which choke tries to deny. Go for fashioned old Uruk Beatdown. Should me more effective.

Thing is, this uruks dont discard from hand but from top of draw deck. So his hand is clogged by my FP choke and i discarting his "new" cards, what he can draw....last game i discarded 3x PATHS, Stealth events and other key cards for him.

Works in theory. Yes, you can get lucky with the discards, but tbh I never had any drawback when my opponent discarded my stuff (except once with His First Serious Check). On the contrary. On decktech there is an article about Foul Creation and how to lose when playing it. Maybe you should give that read a go. It's interesting and useful.

Lesson about decking that Magic taught me (applied to LotR):
Discarding from the top of the deck is only a good strategy if
(a) you get rid of the whole deck (preventing them from drawing cards)
or
(B) they've manipulated the top card to help them

Otherwise, you're just changing their random draw for another random draw.  You are just as likely to cause them to draw the card they need (by getting rid of junk on top of it) as you are to discard the card they need and make them draw junk.
