Another question
« on: April 07, 2014, 04:46:50 PM »
Had another question come up.

When playing the fellowship block, Site 5 says to bring out Balrog during the shadow phase.  If the fellowship doesn't move past site 5, (they are at the end of their moves, or don't want to go to site 6 yet, and have moved at least once) do you bring it out again on their next turn, since they are still on site 5?

The Bridge of Khazad-dum* plays the Balrog as a Shadow action. The Shadow player could use this action only during a Shadow phase in which the Free Peoples player is at the Bridge of Khazad-dum*.  The Free Peoples player moves at the end of the fellowship and regroup phases. If the Free peoples player stays at site 5 (the Bridge), during his next fellowship phase, he will move to site 6 before the shadow player has his shadow phase. So, by the time the shadow player can use shadow actions, the free peoples player is already at site 6, meaning the Bridge of Khazad-dum*'s shadow action is no longer usable. Hope that helps.

TL;DR: No, you don't bring it out again.

I thought the fellowship only moved at the end of the Regroup phase.  So if they start their turn on Site 5, they would go through all the phases and then at the Regroup phase at the end, they would then move to site 6.

At the end of regroup phase, Fellowship can choose to move again, if the move limit allows. But the next Shadow phase would be on site 6 already.

The fellowship can move at two points during the turn:

At the end of the fellowship phase
And at the end of the regroup phase, they can choose to move again if the move limit allows.
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

Looks like I missed that in the Rules.

Just to clarify for the beginning of the game.

Everyone goes through all the phases on Site 1 correct?

Or

They do the fellowship phase, move to site 2, and continue on with the Shadow and other phases?

Boy has it been a long time since I played.  I feel like I really knew nothing about playing.  Or only about half the rules.

Anyways,  also with the Regroup moving again, and then goes to the shadow phase, I take it that the Free Peoples are not able to play more companions, possessions, etc. that would normally be played during the Fellowship Phase then?  They get that chance at the beginning of their turn only?  Unless specified by a card text that is in play, or brought into play by something else?

Thanks

You are correct.  If the FP player moves again in the regroup phase, the next phase is the shadow phase.

Thanks for everyone's help.  I have gone back and re-read the rules, and believe I have my answers for now.  Back to having fun again, with my boys, playing the game.
