FOTR Elf Gondor Archer Mass / Twilight Nazgul Corruption Deck
« on: December 04, 2014, 08:10:22 AM »
Hi, it's my first post here, so I'd like to say hi :)

This is my deck after many years without playing. Years ago I had some nazgul but in exp format. Now I want to have classic.

Light side 40 cards:

Frodo Reluctant Adventurer
The One Ring The Ruling Ring

Legolas Greenleaf
Arwen Daughter of Elrond

Aragorn King in Exile x2
Boromir Lord of Gondor x3

Galadriel Lady of Golden Wood x2
Orophin Lorien Bowman x2
Rumil Elven Protector x2
Bounder

Elven Bow x2
Gwemegil
Long Knives
Aragorns Bow
Armor x2
Blade of Gondor
Flaming Brand x2
Rangers sword
Sting x2
Secret Sentinels x2
Power According (...) x2
The Last Alliance (...) x3
Gondor Bowmen x4
No Stranger to the (...)

Shadow side 40 cards:

Witch King Lord of Nazgul x4
Enquea Lieutenant of Morgul
Enquea Ringwraith in Twilight x3
Nelya Ringwraith in Twilight x4
Otsea Ringwraith in Twilight x2

All Blades Perish x2
Dark Whispers x2
In the ringwraith (...) x2
It wants to be (...) x4
Resistance becomes (...) x4
The twilight world x2
Wraith world x4
Blade tip x2
Gates of the Dead City x4

Yeah I know, it's big, but I don't know what I could put to the trash.

My light side is ordered to shoot as many arrows as they can, big minions are taking by strong Aragorn and Boromir, Nazguls by Arwena or Aragorn and Boromir. I always go second to be on my sites. First 3 sites are for nazguls and aragorn to take it from draw deck. Nothing special

Shadow side is ordered to put as many burdens as they can with events and conditions.

I never played corruption, only saw it in action but it was years ago. I was looking for something in web but they doesn't work well or are as big as mine.

Could you help?

Greetings
Bober

I'm still inexperienced in the game but the deck looks good to me.  Witch King is a really good card, i like the use of it in here. I'm also working on a Elf/Gondor deck. Mind if I take some liberties from your deck?

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie

80 cards is definitely too big for a Nazgul deck without much drawing/cycling. I'd want to go under 70.

Some possible cuts for the Free Peoples in rough order:

- Second Rumil, Orophin: Niche use, especially without FOTR Galadriel to heal them every site. Also Calaglin, Elf of Lorien could substitute for one of them.
- No Stranger to the Shadows: There's no real point trying just a little bit of choke.
- Second Armor: A fine card, but diminishing returns with the second copy.
- Second Elven Bow: There's only one Elf companion that this is any good on, and it's not so fabulous to justify a second.
- Third The Alliance of Elves and Men: Especially when you only have one Ranger's Sword and Blade of Gondor, and it's more vulnerable to discard than they are.
- Long Knives: There's not much point when you've got other strong fighters and you're not running Bow of the Galadrihm.
- Second Sting or Bounder: Mainly useful for Moria, but there are other cards that can perform similar roles while being more useful overall, like O Elbereth! Gilthoniel! or another Secret Sentinels (but neither might be warranted).

At least one Elrond (either is justifiable) should probably be in here.

But in a broader sense I think it suffers from a lack of focus. It seems like a lot of the time you'll have a fair amount of archery and fairly strong companions, which will mean that you'll often not have enough archery to kill off minions and companions that are not strong enough to beat the remaining minions. If you're going for mass archery, you'll want Legolas, Son of Thranduil, The Splendor of their Banners and less emphasis on companion strength. If you're going for more of a "Last Alliance" beatdown style, you'd cut the Elven Bows and PATHS and add extra copies of the main weapons, with the archery as more of a backup that is unleashed all at once in key moments.

For the Shadow:

it looks fairly likely that your hand will get clogged with lots of copies of Wraith World and the Twilight World in the common scenario that the ringbearer doesn't put on the ring. If it works you win easily, but without a lucky draw your Nazgul will pose little threat while your fellowship struggles with the clogged hand. I'd definitely cut most if not all of them.

- 4x Morgul Gates is pretty much essential for a Nazgul deck.
- His Terrible Servants is worth at least 1 copy for twilight Nazgul (replace All Blades Perish).
-Twilight Otsea is pretty much useless unless you've got lots of ways to pump him. With him gone, Blade Tip isn't that useful either (not key to the main purpose of the deck).
- Nazgul Sword is better than Dark Whispers.
- Bill Ferny is worth a look.
- Attea the Easterling is a decent as a generic twilight Nazgul (uniqueness is an issue in this deck).

I like the first build more, especially for the Free Peoples. The Splendor of Their Banners in kind of redundant on Legolas, Greenleaf (he already has a good exert ability) and it's hard to get it to work on Arwen with one Elven Bow. Celeborn isn't that great without Galadriel, Lady of Light (this goes for the other site 6 allies too), and also he tends to be better with Elrond, Lord of Rivendell. A second O Elbereth is almost certainly not worth it - play Filibert Bolger if you're that concerned about Nazgul, but you shouldn't be.

I prefer the first shadow a bit more. I'd consider Morgul Skulker as a means of recycling It Wants To Be Found.
