Fellowship: The Original FSG/Nazgul
« on: August 04, 2015, 11:28:48 AM »
Good afternoon all,

Haven't posted in a while, so I thought I would share a deck I have been having some fun with on GEMP.

Starting Fellowship:
Ring-bearer: Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir
Ring: The One Ring, Isildur's Bane
Sam, Faithful Companion
Gimli, Dwarf of the Mountain-Race

Adventure deck:
Hobbiton Party Field
Bree Streets
Ford of Bruinen
Dwarrowdelf Chamber
The Bridge of Khazad-dum
Caras Galadhon
The Great River
Pillars of the Kings
Summit of Amon Hen

Free Peoples Draw Deck:
1x Aragorn, Ranger of the North
1x Thrarin, Dwarven Smith
1x Bilbo, Well-spoken Gentlehobbit
1x Bounder
1x Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal
1x Rosie Cotton, Hobbiton Lass
1x Dwarven Armor
1x Dwarven Axe
1x Gimli's Helm
1x Hand Axe
2x Bill the Pony
1x Hobbit Sword
1x Sting
1x Mithril-coat
2x Hobbit Intuition
2x Hobbit Stealth
1x Greatest Kingdom of My People
2x Till Durin Wakes Again
4x A Promise
1x A Talent for Not Being Seen
1x Consorting With Wizards
1x O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!
1x There and Back Again
2x Three Monstrous Trolls

Shadow Draw Deck:
2x Bill Ferny, Swarthy Sneering Fellow
3x The Witch-king, Lord of Angmar
3x Ulaire Attea, Keeper of Dol Guldur
2x Ulaire Cantea, Lieutenant of Dol Guldur
3x Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul
1x Ulaire Lemenya, Lieutenant of Morgul
1x Ulaire Nelya, Ringwraith in Twilight
1x Ulaire Nertea, Messenger of Dol Guldur
1x Ulaire Toldea, Messenger of Morgul
2x Morgul Blade
2x Nazgul Sword
2x Morgul Gates
2x Relentless Charge
2x Threshold of Shadow
3x Black Breath
3x Blade Tip
1x Wreathed in Shadow

Pretty simple strategy. Choke with the free peoples. I usually opt to go second, play it safe, and move at my leisure. The shadow strategies that give me the most trouble are condition-based [Sauron] Orcs or if a Nazgul gets an early Black Breath or Blade Tip [or, God forbid, Helpless] on one of my guys. I used to have Make Light of Burdens in here, but I have recently decided that it didn't get enough use.

Hope those of you that I like are doing well, and those of you that I tolerate are at least active in the game.

Do you have Bill the Pony in this deck as well?
If we're gonna play games, I'm gonna need a cup of coffee.

i have a similar deck, but more centered around gorn and less on gimli (after bridge it's expendable) and i find the most troubling shadow moria with his swarm and twilight generation.

To me (it might be your issue too) as you don't have many tales to use with bilbo, my advice is to pack some copies of till durin wakes again (usable and playable even without gimli), since you have a gorn you can pack gondor bowmen (same thing, you can just use them to fuel bilbo) or some weapon/condition hate for moria Song of Durin (another tale, so usable if the don't have moria, but it comes with an exertion to play).

just my 2 cents

[edited.. sorry, fast reply with too many grammar errors]

Well, I don't want the deck to get too big, and honestly Aragorn is in there for some cannon fodder at the end of the game.

I find that I actually don't have very much trouble with Moria, as long as I can get the Dwarven Armor and Gimli's Helm out quickly enough to combat the Cave Troll.

The biggest problems I have run into so far are a strong Nazgul pull at site 2 and 3 [early Blade Tips will kill me] and archery.

I'd rather play something else than those Bracers (because of the pool) and Flurry. You have a draw dependent , unable to cycle shadow paired with choke and events. that is contradicting imo.

Or cut the deck down entirely, which I would recommend.

Surprisingly, I have very little trouble decking through and still have a winning record with the deck through 40 games. [1] or [2] at a time usually isn't a problem with Consorting with Wizards and Sting.

The deck is actually rather fun to play with, too. The Free Peoples is different enough to me being a choke deck without Heir to the White City or the usual Last Alliance or Pipe deck that it offers a given challenge. And it is probably my most successful Nazgul run in FotR block in the past twelve or thirteen years [weird to think of it like that].

As for cutting the deck closer to 32/32, I don't really know that I would drop. I do see the benefit of Axe Strike over Flurry of Blows, but still think Dwarven Bracers adds enough against Blade Tip or direct wounding.

I have removed the Red Book of Westmarch for another copy of Till Durin Wakes Again. Also, removed The Pale Blade and Frying Pan, though the latter was a particularly useful if necessary.

wreathed in shadow, not easily destroyed, 2x morgul blade is stuff i could easily live without. twilight nelya or second toldea would be candidates for me to throw into the deck.

on the freeps side, i'd cut both flurry and gkomp. letting the opponent discard his deck defeats the purpose of choke. i've been up against choke that used discard and it worked to my advantage.

fearing the worst and three monstrous trolls might be worth thinking about if you're having trouble against sauron and moria.
