Yeah, so I’ve found some Magic-format Middle-earth/LotR based cards...

My group was planning on making decks and playing a LotR-based Magic game.

I’ve got quite a few, and will add cards based on ideas (my own or others), and what would be needed for a deck.

The key thing I’ll need (besides general editing) is balance for the cost, as I’m still not great with that (I don’t think...). We’ve got 4 players (so far) - Ents, Nazgul, Elves, and undecided. My current thought on colors was that Gondor would be White, Elves are Blue, the Enemy as Black, Dwarves/Goblins as Red, and Hobbits/similar as Green.

I’ll start with the five Wizards, and put up one version of each of the fellowship later.

Alatar, Dark-hunter 2WhiteBlue
Legendary Creature - Blue Wizard Ranger
5/4
Scry 1.
Tap: Deal 2 damage to target creature.
C

Pallando, East-traveller 2BlueBlue
Legendary Creature - Blue Wizard
4/4
Each time you play an instant, a sorcery or an enchantment card, gain 1 life.
BlueBlue: Gain 1 mana of any color.
U

Radagast, the Brown 2GreenGreen
Legendary Creature - Brown Wizard
5/5
Tap another Wizard you control: When Radagast deals combat damage to a player’s life total, draw a card.
C

Saruman, The White 2WhiteBlack
Legendary Creature - White Wizard
7/7
Whenever a player puts an artifact into play, gain 1 life.
When you play an artifact, any player may pay 3 to flip Saruman.
U

(Saruman, The White - flipped)
Saruman, The Many-Colored BlackBlackBlack
Legendary Creature - Wizard
8/5
Each time you play an artifact, you may pay 1 life to deal 1 damage to each creature and player.

Gandalf, Greyhame 4White
Legendary Creature - Grey Wizard
6/6
Sunburst. Scry 2.
U

Sounds pretty cool. I’ll have to think of a couple of my own.
One thing though...would Radagast’s text read

When Radagst deals combat damage to a player, you may tap a wizard and draw a card.

Basically. It would be ’another wizard’, but that’s the general idea.

Although I think it would bring up a ruling question when you don’t have another Wizard (unless I’m stuck in LOTR rules right now, and it IS all the effect or none of it).

Plus it would no longer be an activated ability, if I’m remembering right.

I have seen that, although it appeared you’re working on a set, as well so I wasn’t sure on that.

In any case, the Fellowship of the Ring...

Aragorn, Strider 3Green
Legendary Creature - Dunadan Ranger
3/6
[X]: Pay only Green mana for X. Aragorn may not be blocked by X target creatures that share a color this turn. Use this only once per turn.
"I can avoid being seen if I wish, but to disappear entirely, that is a rare gift." - Aragorn
U

Frodo Baggins, Ring-bearer 2Green
Legendary Creature - Hobbit Ring-bearer
2/4
Amplify 1. (As Frodo comes into play, put a +1/+1 counter on him for each creature that shares a type with him that you reveal from hand.)
While equipped with a ring, Frodo Baggins may block creatures with fear as though he was a black creature.
U

Samwise Gamgee, Loyal Hobbit 2Green
Legendary Creature - Hobbit
3/3
While you control a creature named Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee gets +2/+2.
While a creature named Frodo Baggins is in your graveyard, whenever Samwise Gamgee would be sent to your graveyard, take him into hand instead.
U

Meriadoc Brandybuck, Merry 1Green
Legendary Creature - Hobbit
2/2
Tap, Sacrifice Meriadoc Brandybuck: Target creature an opponent controls may not attack this turn.
Kicker Green: Search your deck for a card named Peregrin Took and put it into play.
U

Peregrin Took, Pippin 1Green
Legendary Creature - Hobbit
2/3
Tap, Sacrifice Peregrin Took: Tap target creature. Draw a card.
Kicker Green: Search your deck for a card named Meriadoc Brandybuck and put it into play.
U

Boromir, Companion 2Green
Legendary Creature - Dunadan Warrior
4/4
When Boromir comes into play, each player discards a card.
Green: Boromir may block any number of creatures this turn. After damage is dealt, put Boromir into your graveyard.
Green: Creatures attacking Boromir lose trample. After damage is dealt, put Boromir inot your graveyard.
"There many foes he fought. / His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought. / His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest."
U

Gimil, Dwarf of Erebor 1Green
Legendary Creature - Dwarf Warrior
3/2
Flanking 2. (Whenever a creature without flanking blocks this creature, the blocking creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn)
2Green: Each Legend Creature you control gets +1/+0 until the end of this turn. If you control a creature named Legolas, they get +1/+1 instead.
"And my axe."
U

Legolas, Greenleaf GreenGreenGreen
Legendary Creature - Elf Archer
3/3
Haste. Flanking 1.
[X][Y]: Pay only Green mana for X. Pay only Blue mana for Y. Target creature gets -X/-Y until the end of the turn.
U

Gandalf, the Grey 2GreenGreenGreen
Legendary Creature - Grey Wizard
4/4
Sunburst. Vigilance.
Discard Gandalf: Put up to 3 basic land cards from your graveyard on the top of your deck in any order.

Just a few others... Elves and Elf support...

Aragorn, Estel 1Blue
Legendary Creature - Dunadan Warrior
2/2
3Blue, Sacrifice Aragorn, Estel: Put a creature card named Aragorn into play from your hand.
While you control an Elf, Aragorn gains Protection from Goblins.
"From the ashes a fire shall be woken, / A light from the shadows shall spring."
C

Arwen Undomiel, Evenstar 2BlueBlue
Legendary Creature - Elf Ranger
5/5
Each Ranger gains the Warrior type.
Aragorn gains Vigilance.
Young she was, and yet not so.
U

Elrond, Lord of Rivendell 2BlueBlue
Legendary Creature - Elf King
5/5
BlueBlue: Draw a card.
Tap3: Search your library for a card named Vilya. Shuffle your library, then put Vilya on the top of your library.
He was the Lord of Rivendell and mighty among both Elves and Men.
C

Gimli, Diplomat 2Blue
Legendary Creature - Dwarf
3/4
Haste. Defender.
Creatures with summoning sickness get -2/-0.
C

Lothlorien
Legendary Land - City
When you play Lothlorien, return a forest to your hand or sacrifice Lothlorien.
Tap: Add Blue to your mana pool. If you control Galadriel, you may add Green to your mana pool instead. If you control Celeborn, you may add Blue in addition.
R

Samwise Gamgee, Elf-friend 1BlueBlue
Legendary Creature - Hobbit
*/*
Samwise Gamgee’s power and toughness are equal to the number of Elf Legends you control.
Each Elf Legend costs you 1 less to play.
C

Just to show something - with Galadriel and Celeborn, Lothlorien can tap alone to play this:

Ent-moot GreenBlue
Enchantment
Upkeep GreenGreen
Tap an Ent you control: Whenever you would draw a card this turn, put a discussion counter on Ent-moot instead.
While there are more counters on Ent-moot than Ent creatures in play, and any player controls more non-forests than there are forests in play, Ents lose defender.

Just a few pointers, as these ARE MTG cards, even though BASED on LotR, keep in mind the colors associated with each race. It’s ok to "shift" a race into another color (like the black Balthor), but they should have a matching template to the new color (like Zombie Dwarf). Otherwise, try to keep elves in green, dwarves in red, wizards in blue and humans in white. After a long discussion, we also agreed hobbits could be found in green and white, MTG-oriented, although mostly on green. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

yeah, I was never great with the flavor for MTG... But it’s nice to see that my starting ideas are roughly correct, even if my Elves seem to be the wrong color.
