I came up with this and have been trying to perfect it.


The Balrog Terror of Flame and Shadow x3
The Balrog Durin’s Bane x1
Goblin Runner x4
Goblin Sneak x4

The Balrog’s sword x4
Goblin spear x2

Relics of Moria x2
Must do without hope x4
Foul Things x4
Fill with Fear x2
Power and Terror x4
Dark places x4


The main site you need is The Bridge of Kahzad-Dum.

The idea is to use Power and Terror to make the Balrog’s twilight cost lower.

Equip him with Goblin spear and His sword to overwhelm and add burdens. (Dark places will also pump strength.
Must do without hope will help corrupt
Foul things will keep pulling the balrog.
Fill with Fear will keep archery wounds off opening the way to assault.
That is pretty much it. It is a deck used mainly for a two player game.

Balrog corruption is always hard to do, you can get some burdens easily without a doubt but to actually corrupt? Bit harder. But it looks fine as it is theres not much else you can add or that i would, maybe a durins tower for a +3 pump when you need it. Thumbs Up

How about the new Balrog? (Or do you not have it?) It would douse Ithilien Blade decks and archery.

Yea, I think it would be better to add the Balrog, Demon of Might Thumbs Up I don’t know if Durin’s Bane is effective.

MAJOR problem with that idea: Must Do Without Hope is a maneuver event.

So Durin’s Bane probably IS the best option, as it at least eliminates archery.

Use both. Durin’s Bane for anti-archery, demon of might to kill everything else.

Although damage +3 is just plain evil...

No I don’t have any of the new Balrogs.
Durin’s Tower is nice, but it is limited. With Dark Places (x4) you get a +4 strength boost. That is 21 strength without weapons. I may add a couple Durin’s tower.

Does anybody have the new Balrog?

If you use the new Balrog it skips the manuver phase and must do without Hope has to be done during the manuver phase so your whole point of trying to add burdens is pointless. The Balrog, Demon of Might is awesome but not the best choice in this deck if trying to corrupt.

Out of interest, what kind of fellowship are you playing with this deck?

If you don’t know yet, I’d suggest something with Gandalf so you could use Final Account to grab back Must Do Without Hope.
