When does return trigger? Assuming it’s in the fellowship phase, maybe add ’... as if from hand’ or ’... during the fellowship phase’ somewhere in your helper text which would make it clearer.

It doesn’t trigger. The normal rules about when you can play cards apply. Does this really need to be clearer?

I think it can’t hurt to be clear. It’s not so clear cut as many cards are played out of sync to normal (like Dernhelm’s blade or Peril).

Not a fan of your wording there. Perhaps after ’threat’, you could simply write ’Then, exhaust this companion.’

The problem is that the cost of return is after the colon. If you can’t pay that cost, you can’t use the ability. For the effect of the return to be placed alongside the cost doesn’t seem to make a sense. You can’t exhaust the companion until it’s in play. What if there was a card that said "Return - add a threat. Then remove 3."? If there was no twilight in the pool, could you play the card or not? I understand what you are saying about this, but I actually think my wording makes the cost - effect of Return clearer.

I think it would be clear my way as well. You pay the return cost to put the card into play, then you do the next bit.

Hmm nice atttempt but ive learned from long ago that exhausting too many wraiths can be a bad thing. My wraith decks is most balanced at the point i can control exactly where wounds are healed and which comps are exhausted. This is a double edged sword. if you intended it to be so, for balance, then neato. if not be aware this can be deeply poo.

Yeah, I’d thought of that too, but is DOES create a delicate balancing act, so I felt it was alright to leave it as is. Could pay off in droves...or make you cry. Depends on when it’s used.

That was exactly my intention. You only play return if you want to, so you can choose whether to play the companion or not, but if you do, you have to accept exhausting all your Wraiths. Facing an archery deck or something of that sort, you might really think twice about playing this guy from the discard pile.

Thanks for all comments so far. I have amended the reminder text for return so it now includes the phrase ’as if from hand’ to make it more explicit that you can’t simply play these cards whenever you fancy.

I have however, kept my phrasing for ’if you played this using the return cost’. Sorry Thran, I hear what you’re saying but I can’t help feeling that this way works more clearly within the rules.

Anyway, one final companion and some possessions to see you over the weekend:

2 Spectral Fighter Gondor
Companion • Wraith
Strength: 5
Vitality: 2
Resistance: 5
Twilight. Enduring 3.
To play, spot a Gondor companion.
While in your starting fellowship, this companion’s twilight cost is -1.

0 Ghostly Blade Gondor
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength: +1
Bearer must be a Gondor Wraith.
Return - 2 (you may play this card from your discard pile as if from hand if you pay 2).
“Pale swords were drawn...”

1 Ghostly Steed Gondor
Possession • Mount
Bearer must be a Gondor Wraith.
Return - 2. (You may play this card from you discard pile as if from hand if you add 2).
At the start of each skirmish involving bearer, exert each character in that skirmish.
“‘I see shapes of Men and of horses...’"

1 Ghostly Banner Gondor
Possession • Hand Weapon
Bearer must be a Gondor Wraith.
Return - Add a threat.
Skirmish: Scour 2 cards to make bearer strength +1 (limit +3).
“‘...pale banners like shreds of cloud, and spears like winter-thickets on a misty night.’”

NB: Scour, for those who have forgotten, means discard off the top of your draw deck.

Seems balanced, though a 1 cost strength 9 companion might be rather too much, even with vitality 1. Perhaps take strength and/or enduring down 1?

One of the things I really liked about your Wraiths was the low resistance. Not sure if they need or should have such bonuses. Make make it 0 cost for +1 vitality instead of both other attributes?

This one’s loads of fun! You’re using the word ’Ghostly’ too often though. I like Spectral Steed, good alliteration.

Good. Don’t like limits in general, but i guess there’s nothing you could do about it.

I’d like "Spectral Warior" better, but to each their own. I’d take his strength down to 5. I applaud the starting fellowship thing, though.

I’d just drop the resistance bonus and be done with it.

I agree with Thran here. I have a mount for a future set with the same title (assuming you change it) and lore! Smile

No need for "strength" to be capitalized. You might even be able to drop the cost to 0 considering it has no initial bonuses, though I get the feelinf that scour will be important for these guys, so it’s probably safer to leave it, I guess.

Oh yeah, and I was just thinking it’s a shame that the banner has nothing when you win a skirmish like all the old banners (even though they were useless).

Maybe placing Gondor cards from your discard pile on top of your draw deck?
