Title: Dragons
Post by: L on October 05, 2010, 03:03:36 PM
Hello everyone. I was directed to this site by Mr. Lurtzy (maybe you know him?) and I have a few questions. I will spare you the long introductions. I'm a long time LOTR player, since FoTR... but my interest in that game has waned. I played some MTG with a friend (niqiri, maybe you know him too?), and it looked intriguing. I do not have much of a collection, and I will put my full cardlist below. I would like to, maybe, make a deck with one or more of these cards as the focus. Anyway, here's what I have:

Eternal Dragon (foil) (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=44398)
Cloud Dragon (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=4252)
Jugan, the Rising Star (foil) (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=50247)
Steel Hellkite (foil) (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=206351)
Kokusho, the Evening Star (foil) (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=178022)
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind (foil) (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=178023)

Yeah, those are ALL the magic cards I own. So, I have a lot of work to do. First question I should ask, are any of these cards even worth making a deck that focuses on them? And which ones should I use? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Yeah, you have a lot of work. First of all, it's easier to start by playing only one color, 2 at most. So, from the above cards, choose the two colors you'd want to play (basically by seeing which cards you'd want to play the most).

I don't really know much about those abilities. What would you recommend for a beginner? (I would like to use at least one of those dragons as a main feature)

I might try these.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind
Steel Hellkite

The point would be control, and these two cards would be the finishers. You could run a lot of red damage spells, and blue counterspells, maybe add white for access to Lightning Angels and Wrath of God.

There are some blue enchantments that read "When enchanted creature deals damage, draw a card". Basically, you can run red and blue for counters and damage spells to keep the game in check, drop Niv-Mizzet, enchant him, tap him to draw a card and win game instantly.

Its Curiosity. That would be epic.

Thanks, that's the one I was after. Ophidian Eye worked too, but it sucks. I had a deck that accomplished this. Awesome prank to pull off. Also, the deck was all counters, Wee Dragonauts, Brute Force and burn.

Thanks for the help guys. Honestly, I just got those six dragons with an unrelated purchase a while back, and I had no idea what to do with them. Glad to see they can be used.
