Title: Pruning (new members please read!)
Post by: Kralik on November 21, 2008, 03:20:37 PM
I like to keep active members on the members list of this site. Periodically, I will prune "old" members based on post count and activity. If you are active on the forums (perhaps, active PM'ing) then you have nothing to fear. However, we'd love to have some posts from you as well!

Here's the list of those who will be pruned from time to time:

*Members who haven't been active for 3 months and have 0 posts.
*Members who haven't been active for 6 months and have less than 3 posts.
*Members who haven't been active for 1 year and have less than 5 posts.
*Members who haven't been active for 2 years and have less than 10 posts.
*Members who haven't been active for 5 years and have less than 20 posts.
*Members who haven't been active for 10 years and have less than 50 posts.
*Members who haven't been active for 100 years and have less than 100 posts.

If you can make it to 50 posts I think you're pretty safe.

I didn't think bots could automatically sign up, much less get pass the CAPTCHA...

Devious, filthy little buggers.  What exactly have the bots been doing to TLHH lately?

Post spammy ads for nasty things...
But thanks for reminding me! The pruning starts now. :)

I see a lot of users with 0 posts, so, is a new pruning session coming up anytime soon?

I suppose I should start again, though we haven't really been having problems with bots recently AFAIK.

I'm running a batch of pruning today... just a heads up. Member count will drop substantially.

EDIT: Done. Pruned all members with 0 posts who have not been active in the last 6 months. Next round I'm moving to 3 months (based on activity, not on registration date).

Ha OK then I'll try to find something worthwhile to say elsewhere... I'll make up some DCs or something. I only want to live.

Ah, the reign of terror begins!

There are some handy admin tools to automate the process, so PM me if you need info TJ.

If someone has not made any posts, what do they really have to lose? Worse case they can just recreate their account with the same username. And for those heavy traders/PM'ers... I ask that you contribute more than just to the marketplace.

All members not meeting the 6 month, 1 year and on requirements have been pruned. These people haven't logged in for at least 180 days.

123 of 460 members have zero posts. What is more disturbing is that 48 of the 58 people who have registered in the past month have fewer than two posts.

I think it's pretty great that we have new members 3+ years since the game officially stopped production!

Sure, some tournament structure would be great, but more tournaments in general would be even better, so everybody get out there and play a pick-up game with a friend at your local card shop! You might just get some interest from other people - I did!

I think you pruned turin08.

EDIT: Oh, by the way Hawkeye, you might want to update your signature, because Bush has been out of office for nearly two years now.  ;)

Oh man, I totally forgot about that - I've got signatures hidden! The quote doesn't refer to Bush though, it's mocking Sarah Palin. If you mean the date, I'm keeping it.

I thought that I would post so I don't get pruned. I mean I hate it when I am in the bathtub to long and that happens to your fingers and toes. Seriously though I lik to read the forums. I just don't post much.

Pruning sounds fruity for those languages I know - what does it mean? Is it an idiom?

:o harsh word in this context, but funny. Once again, I can say, this forum has great potential for international collaboration.  ;D Thank you!

For all of you with dozens of posts... remembers... you are NOT going to be pruned unless you haven't been active (i.e. never even logged in) for a good 5-10 years!

No worries, folks! The main point is to get rid of spambots.

Even if you never post (and have ZERO posts), but log in every few months or so, you will never be pruned.

Just a reminder that posts in the General section of TLHH do not add to your post count.

Don't worry...

a) I haven't run the pruning for a while,
b) It's based off both activity and post count. If you're active (i.e. you browse the forums often), you'll never be pruned, even if you don't post much.
