Title: King Standard Arwengorn/IsenMen
Post by: ket_the_jet on July 14, 2017, 08:05:11 AM
This is a low-impact, fun one to play. Watch out for Grima, Wormtongue!

Starting:
Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer with The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles
Legolas, Fearless Marksman
Arwen, Evenstar of Her People

Free Peoples:
Aragorn, Defender of Free Peoples x3
Faramir, Son of Denethor x2

Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad x2
Galadriel, Keeper of Nenya
Bounder

Asfaloth
Gwemegil
Sting, Baggins Heirloom
Sword of Gondor

Anduril, Flame of the West
Ring of Barahir
Mithril-Coat

Company of Archers x3
Trust x3
Valiant Man of the West x2

Gift of the Evenstar
Strength of Arms x2
Agility x2
The Last Alliance of Elves and Men x2

Shadow:
Agents of Orthanc x3
Grima, Chief Counselor
Grima, Wormtongue x3
Rohirrim Traitor x4
Saruman, Black Traitor x2
Saruman, Servant of the Eye
Unferth, Grima's Bodyguard x3
Tower Assassin
Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul

Saruman's Staff, Wizard's Device x2

Men Will Fall x3

Banished x2
Leechcraft x2
Twisted Tales x2
Wounded x2

Site Path:
Rohirrim Road
King's Tent
Hall of the Kings
Anduin Banks
Pelennor Flat
Minas Tirith Seventh Circle
Ruined Capitol
Morgulduin
Dagorlad

The Shadow is fairly worthless against any free peoples that doesn't heavily feature Men; luckily, in King Standard, [Gondor] is still a heavy part of the meta and there is a smattering of [Rohan] as well.

The Free Peoples relies on Trust for healing, and Arwen to win skirmishes with her game text (exerting self-healers like Elrond and Galadriel). Those tokens allow Aragorn to defeat the biggest baddies. Simple enough.

I haven't yet played king standard outside of a sealed league, but this looks fun. Though, I would personally use a different shadow and pack two copies of still needed as another recurring pump that can be ditched by fearless marksman if you need the cycle instead. I may try this deck, thanks for posting it.

I think I saw you playing this very deck with Still Needed as well. I find that this is quite versatile even when I do run into decks without [Rohan] or [Gondor]. The Shadow gets shellacked by straight-Elven decks though.

Be careful of Saruman's Power. If you expect it, perhaps hold onto a copy of Agility for late in the game.

I'd play that Freeps - actually, I do have a similar one. Apparently I've gone 0-3 with it. Here it is!

Ring-bearer: Frodo, Hope of Free Peoples
Ring: The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles

Free Peoples Draw Deck:
1x Arwen, Fair Elf Maiden
1x Fereveldir, Son of Thandronen
1x Legolas, Greenleaf
1x Pengedhel, Naith Warrior
1x Thonnas, Naith Captain
3x Aragorn, Defender of Free Peoples
2x Elrond, Herald to Gil-galad
1x Galadriel, Lady of the Golden Wood
1x Asfaloth
1x Bow of the Galadhrim
1x Gwemegil
1x Long-knives of Legolas
4x Naith Longbow
1x Aragorn's Bow
1x Ranger's Sword
1x Vilya
1x Ring of Barahir
2x Company of Archers
2x Agility
1x Shadow Between
2x Strength of Arms
1x The Last Alliance of Elves and Men
1x The Tale of Gil-galad
1x The Saga of Elendil

IIRC I have too many companions (and apparently no help for Frodo?!). I may have to steal a couple things from your list. Does that Arwen work out well? I've never blinked when passing over her, but I'm not very good at card evaluation ...

Well, Faramir, Son of Denethor is massively better than Thonnas and Pengedhel and Fereveldir...and it isn't close.

The beauty of Arwen, Evenstar of Her People is that with Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad and Galadriel, Keeper of Nenya, you have a lot of self-healing characters that can boost Arwen's ability to place tokens. Trust is a crucial source of healing up, allowing Elrond to be used in Arwen's text.

As for my deck, Gift of the Evenstar is probably not necessary and could be replaced with another copy of Trust or, perhaps, another Bounder. As for yours, I'd avoid the two vitality conditions and clearing out those Naith Longbows will allow you to add Trust.

Thanks. That Faramir is one of my favourite characters, but I never know where to put him ... perhaps everywhere? I do like your version better, though I'll have to Trust you on the Arwen till I've seen her in action (see what I did there?).
