I'm a bit confused about this. I know all about requirements and the cost of cards. But why can you play Pallando on an exhausted Wraith?.....
-
Yes, because it is not a cost, but an effect. You can transfer it to any exhausted character without penalty. This would not be true if it said: 'In order to transfer Pallando to a non- [Gandalf] companion, you must exert that companion twice.'

Thranduil has nailed it.
The 2 exertions are effects, not costs.
Like Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth, he cant exert 2 minions unless there are 2 minions to exert.

Hello everyone, I'm glad I came across this active forum. My friends and I came into the LOTR TCG games a little late and we are currently mainly playing the Two Towers block. Exertions is one point of confusion that seems to constantly come up. For example, an Elite Crossbowmen (4R 150) reads: Archery: Exert Elite Crossbowmen to make the Free People's player wound an unbound companion; this minion does not add to the minion archery total.
My question is since the Elite Crossbowmen has a vitality of 3 can I exert him twice to make the Free Peoples player place two wounds on an unbound companion(s)? I thought I could, but I'm not certain. Thanks in advance ~ Chris

Yes, you can exert Elite Crossbowmen twice, with each exertion counting as a separate action. Special abilities may be performed more than once. Along the same lines Legolas, Greenleaf can be exerted twice for 2 wounds in the same archery phase.
I guess I should add that the game text of events may be performed only once for each copy, even though the earlier texts are preceded by a phase in bold as well. So for example the Balrog can exert only once with Must Do Without Hope for each copy played.
Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the quick reply Socks. I'm so glad I've found this place. It's been killing me that the LOTRTCG.FANHQ forum had been down for so long, as well as the Cobra Cards forum. I plan on making this my home for all thing LOTR TCG. I'm sure I'll have more questions down the road. Thanks Again. ~ Chris

you're most welcome!

I guess it SHOULD be added, since you're new to the game, that you CAN exert the Elite Crossbowmen twice, but the Free Peoples player will be able to play HIS Archery Special ABilities once you exert him, you can't do both exertions in a row. So if you exert him, the Free Peoples player could, as said, exert Legolas, Greenleaf to wound him, making you unable to exert him again.
-
But...the chance of that happening isn't very high. Nobody runs Greenleaf anymore.
-
I have a FOTR block deck that does.
-
So the flow of the archery phase goes like this:
Free peoples takes an Archery action/event. (if they choose)
Shadow player takes an Archery action/event. (wounds are assigned at time of action for both FP and Shadow player)
That continues until no more actions are taken.
The free peoples and minion archery totals are tallied.
Free peoples player assigns wounds equal to the minion archery total and selects a shadow player to assign wounds equal to the free peoples archery total.
Please correct me if I left something out or have something out of order.
Thanks ~ Chris

There's also "At the start of the archery phase..." actions (e.g. Legolas, Woodland Emissary, Howdah) that take place before archery actions. If there are several required ones happening at the same time (don't think any were created for the archery phase, but just in case), the Free Peoples player gets to choose in which order they resolve. Then optional actions occur, following the action procedure you described. Next comes the archery actions in your post... which is just a long way of saying your post looks good. ;)
But...the chance of that happening isn't very high. Nobody runs Greenleaf anymore.
If I ever paired Legolas with Hobbits, Greenleaf might just work there! ...Does anyone run Legolas with Hobbits (non-DH)?

Are you kidding me? He's one of the more lethal elfies out there...

Greenleaf was THE Legolas to use for the longest time. Now there are a couple other good Legolases to use, but if you've got no other use for a specific one, Greenleaf is the one to go with.

Yes our rules man has returned to us! Welcome Bib glad you decided to join.
-
Yeah, he was THE Legolas, and he's good if you're just tossing him in a deck, but usually, if you're just looking for a Legolas to toss in, you'd be better off with another comp.
I personally like Legolas, Fearless Marksman as a toss in, helps cycle.
Plus, Greenleaf isn't even an option in standard.

It doesn't seem to me the rule about Pallando is clarified. Maybe it is, but not explicitly.
For a follower at least, the Aid - cost is mandatory for transferring the card to a companion.
The text, "each time you transfer" is mandatory, but not required for the actual transfer. It is merely something that must be done, but only as the result of something else being performed.

Pallando is very clear - it does what it says. You transfer it, then if that companion is not a [Gandalf] companion, you exert them twice (if you can).
Thranduil

That's why Pallando is awesome with [Gondor] Wraiths. You can use him as an auto-exhaust, but after that his "drawback" doesn't matter.

Not sure if I get what you're saying here. The "Each time you transfer..." is not part of the aid cost as you pointed out (which is just to add [2]), but... what needs to be clarified?

When I play the card with Toil, does it trigger the text of Legolas' Bow?
-
yes it does

Ah, my favorite Nocked launching pad. And the cool thing is, it works once each phase!
